Ok the title was a bit dramatic. But its fun at least, yeah?
I thought I'd go ahead since a lot of people ask me about producing. I had a thread on it but unfortunately got sidelined with nonsense so I'll simply post my thoughts here on this ummm...unusual biz that I've decided to wade into.
Its different, to be sure. We aren't selling insurance, and we aren't selling encyclopedias. Theres no 'association', no organization, and it sorta skirts on the outside in a gray area. You have to HUSTLE hard, if you want towin succeed.
So how did I start? Probably not the same as everyone else. For me, I started in this with my wife who some of you may know as Mint Vixen. We were primarily a bondage studio with a bit of tickling here and there. That only began because we were taking pics and posting personal play on Fetlife (ugh...I wouldnt want to be a female on there - if you know you know). We gained attention; people said they liked my ties and thought she was gorgeous. Honestly is was likely the latter more than the former there. But, a fellow reached out wanting a clip shot and asked if we would do it.
Sure, I told him. The rules were she wasnt going to be nude, nor stimulated. He only wanted me to tape her up and her struggle onscreen for 15 minutes. Okay cool. Heres the part producers and models will laugh at: he asked how much, I shrugged behind the screen and said 40 bucks. He jumped all over that and we ended up shooting 4 or 5 clips for him. At that point the light bulb went off, we opened our little store and we were off and running.
Fast forward to the dreaded 'thing' no one who is new wants to happen: we got busted. Not by family (yet), by work. I don't tend to allow myself to be controlled by anyone, and so I refuse to be embarrassed over this. Mind you I dont run around shouting it from the rooftops, but I won't lie about it either. Lets face it: whoever found the material wasn't shopping for a new dustpan, they were looking for THIS. To this day I dont know who the coward was but they were more than willing to pass it around.
Typical human nature right?
Anyway. So at that point she was really bothered by it going around the way it did, and pulled the plug. I got out also, though I did try to relaunch a short period under Elektra Kinbaku. Again, a bondage studio and not a tickling one.
I had a measure of success with each but I soon shut down since she wasn't in it anymore and I didnt really know what I was doing back then. Starting out isn't easy at all. It was well worth the experience though, and when I started this new venture I had prior experience that helped me gain success this go around.
The number one thing: come to the table with something NEW. The reason I had success but not a ton, was because I was 'yet another' bondage producer. There are a thousand, so what would you do differently to garner attention and gain a following/customer base? Simply being good with rope isn't going to cut it. Many producers who are well established are already out there. I use bondage as an easy example but I mean it in any category, tickling included. You can get away with being copy and paste to a degree, but to really stand out you've got to have a new angle on some level.
So, theres how it started for me in the 'pro circuit'. I appreciate all of you who have been customers or any sort of positive influence with your kind words 🙂
