I work at a store that sells beer, and only beer. Part of my job is to card people to ensure that we dont' sell alcohol to minors and to ask questions about a persons evening if they look like they're intoxicated. In either case, if you don't meet requirements, you don't get served, it's that simple. Basically, I have to do whatever I have to do to make sure you don't get served.
I take pride in my job, and I'm damn good at my job. Which means that I'm not liked very much by my clientele. Whatever.
The morning I leave for NEST, roughly two hours earlier, actually, I'm starting the interview process to work for Toronto Police Services as a Parking Enforcement Officer. My job, if hired, will consist of patrolling the city for people who have parked illegally, writing suitable tickets and responding to complaints of a vehicular nature. On a much different scale, but I'm sure that I'm not going to be liked very much by my clientele. Whatever.
I really, really want the parking enforcement job, but I can't help notice that my number one marketable skill in the job hunt world is "Ability to absorb hatred, rage, insults and general ill-will from the mass public, simply for doing my job well". Hell of a skill to have, eh?
At some point, I want to get a Ph.D in Psychology, go back in time and observe my life to this point totally objectively. Just to see if this skill is inherent or learned, and if so, where I learned it.
On a side note, I think "Hatesponge" would make a great name for a metal band.
