Just as Jim Gardner did when he left the 11pm Newscast this past January, Jim Gardner's final signoff was tonight, and he gave a classy, eloquent closing speech
There were exactly two reporter stories.,
After which, weather anchor Cecily Tynan gave the weather, and Sports Anchor Duceus Rogers gave the sports.
Following this, Jim , being the class act that he is, finished with an elaborate closing speech, as Jim thanked those he worked with over the years, and the viewers.
Now, Jim is retired.
I will not be watching WPVI news online going forward.
They have a fine newsteam, and Jim's successor on the 6 pm news, Brian Taff, is a great newscaster.
As is Rick Williams, the man who replaced Jim on the 11pm news last January.
Yet, as good as they are, they are not Jim.
There will be a one hour primetime special honoring Jim's career on WPVI.com tomorrow night, which I hope to watch.
After an almost two decade journey with Jim through my own personal triumphs and tragedies, I wish Jim all the best.
Yet , for myself, it will never be the same.
I will greatly miss watching his newscast every night, as I had been doing for almost two decades.
