Music from my life. [[ Hip-Hop/R&B and Rap Edition ]]

Take a walk with me -- Music from my life.

[[ Hip-Hop/R&B and Rap Edition. ]]

I set myself up for it, I know. But, believe it or not, Metallica was not the main influence on most of my life. Between the ages of 10 and 15 I was predominantly listening to Hip/Hop and R&B. Pop music and those Emo bands we love to hate (or just hate period) peppered throughout, even now and Metal/Hard Rock and Alternative only really held appeal if it was from the 80's and/or 90's.

Now, I've been circulating through listening to newer Alternative, but I always have those times where I seek out the stuff that I grew up listening to.

This is my story.

(I had to add that.)

In no chronological order, simply a link/video and a little explanation of why I enjoyed it.

First up, Hip-Hop and R&B.

The reason I think I'm going to do this category first, is because of the sheer amount of time I actually spent listening to it when I was young(er). -- I still do occasionally when I get in the mood for it. Sadly, a lot of what I used to listen to, I've forgotten who the artist is or the name of the song. So this is all based on what I guess stuck out the most.

- New Edition.

I actually forced myself to remember this group. I had forgotten but knew I had loved it because of how many songs I used to burn and play over and over again on my CD Player. Yes, *CD PLAYER*

One of my favorites actually. Came out in 1988.

-- I loved the lyrics to this song. I'm not a video watcher, so finding this song to post was the first time I'd ever watched the video. It's typical to what I'd expect it to be, so nothing big there. -- The mellow beat makes the song almost sound depressing, but they manage to counteract that possible feeling with the impact of their lyrics. --

- Ginuwine

I have two songs from him that really stick out for me. The first being;

and,

Okay, the reason for these songs is I can clearly remember doing really bad things with one of my boyfriends to these songs. -- Pony actually ended up being one of the most remixed songs I've ever seen, and yes, I downloaded each and every one. I still listen to this song on occasion. However, "Differences" never managed to carry the same appeal over for me. It was more of an "in the moment" song that lasted enough time then probably deserved.

- Al Green

Ahhh. Yes. See, if I was putting these in order, he'd be one of the ones at the top.

Everything about his music made me want to dance. Along in my bedroom with no-one watching of course. -- His lyrical style is so basic and in my opinion, the basics is what makes certain things Gospel. And boy did Mr. Green used to preach.

As shown here, with my favorite;

- Marvin Gaye

The man could write a song oozing with sex like I couldn't believe. And at 10/11 years old, that was something! -- However, he did more then just issue out the 'sexy goods'. He tackled a lot of the issues within the African American community in a poignant and beautiful way that definitely made us never ever forget him. Like Bob Marley did, with a different lyrical stance.

and of course,

And the "Sexual Healing" Remixes:

- Michael Jackson

None of my list would have mattered to me if I didn't have this man on it. I have so many memories of growing up with his songs always playing in the background. I remember when I was 5, my mother bought me Michael Jackson's "Bad" on music cassette for Christmas. I spent the entire day upstairs playing the hell out of that tape and playing with my barbies.

Odd, that Michael expressed himself in such an extremely "manly" and aggressive way in almost all of his videos, but chose to lead the life that he had. I think that the poor man didn't know what he wanted.

His music still is blasted whenever it comes on though. I've never lost my love for Michael Jackson.

Some of my favorites:

----

Those that know me, know that I am incredibly finicky about Female Singers. (And most music) -- Remember how I said that my mother got me the "Bad" Cassette for Christmas? Well, she got me one other one as well, and that tape got as much play as the Michael Jackson one did. And that was from one of the most incredible black female singers ever.

- Tina Turner

Yes, I'm a huge Turner fan. -- Some of my favorites:

----

I think I'll wrap up my Hip hop/R&B piece here. Below are a few other songs that were favorites for me. Some are R&B, some are Hip Hop and some fall into the Rap category. Some are techno mixes with a rap style. Just enjoy the fucking music, eh?

I hope you enjoyed!
