The basic question is why in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, are some folks still willing to meet up with others for an experience that involves contact that is intimate enough to transmit said virus?

Posters above have listed several reasons for why someone might, and there is nothing inherently wrong with those reasons. They are jus that, reasons. Others have discussed the idea of cultural obligation as to why those reasons are not 'good enough', also a very valid line of discussion.

What the thread is basically asking is how do we as individuals judge and evaluate risks that might not be only to us, but to others around us also? And as we can see with the COVID issues writ large is that most folks come up with something unique to themselves and situation. And we can discuss the merits of those choices, but without being derogatory or hateful.

Let's not make me sink this one.
