What's with the "Ashley Madison - Have an affair anywhere" ad?

How come the ad section on the left now has an ad for an agency that helps people cheat on their spouse? Is this serious or is it just a joke? It just doesn't seem appropropriate to me (not to mention that it has nothing to do with tickling). Definitely not the kind of image I'm comfortable with for this forum.

It's none of my business what people do in their relationships but I FUCKING HATE the idea of that website. I don't get it, if you're unhappy in a relationship, GET OUT. Don't hurt the other person like that. Being cheated on is devastating, it hurts, and the hurt lasts for-fucking-ever. People are so sick.

Sorry, that just makes me so mad. I don't know why anyone would advertise something like that. Ugh!!

Ashley Madison is really more of a dating site than anything else, they just use the cheating thing to stir up attention.

I don't love that particular banner either, but getting ones that fit our sidebar isn't easy. I'm going to change it to something less obnoxious when I find one that can be edited down.

Fair enough. But, I'm curious, how was that ad selected in the first place? Was it specifically chosen for some reason or is there some kind of random ad system for one of the slots on the sidebar, with no control over which ad appears? I understand that keeping the TMF alive and well isn't free; money has to come from somewhare. But that particular ad is pretty cheap and kinda makes the community look bad. At least that's how I feel.

I'm not in charge of the TMF or anything, of course, so it's not my call. But personally I would rather not see such trashy, irrelevant ads posted here. Not to mention that it takes an ad spot that a tickling media producer could use. Then again, if it turns out that not enough tickling producers are posting ads here I understand that the advertisement space has to be used in some other way. I just wish it was for something in better taste.

It's just an ad. The catch phrase of having an affair is probably meant to get attention, no matter what kind of attention, and it does just that. TMF is a free site so Im not gonna complain about what ads appear or dont appear. Or which ones are trashy or not. There's a gif of forced orgasms like 3 ads down. This is an adult fetish website, after all.

That's the one that makes us look bad? It's the only one I wouldn't be horrified about if my mother wanted to see my website.

That said, I understand your point. And to answer your question, that ad was the only one among the choices they offered that I was able to easily get sized properly for our sidebar. I'll change it when a better one presents itself, or when I get a chance to really dig into their banners, or if it just turns out to be a worthless ad. Right now plenty of people are clicking through on it and I don't think it's out of place here.

But AnnieHall's point is right on the nose... look at the rest of the ads here with fresh eyes and the Ashley Madison one looks pretty tame.

I understand that the ad may seem kind of tame compared to the more graphic content of some other ads found on the TMF. But at least those ads are relevant to the site's theme. "Vanilla" people might not be comfortable with some of the tickling material found here, or even tickling fetishism in general, but the fact is that this is a tickling fetish site. It's supposed to contain adult-oriented tickling material. It's what it's all about. The Ashley Madison ad, on the other hand, doesn't even have anything to do with tickling.

Also, the tacky catch phrase may be there mostly for shock value and to attract attention, but it doesn't change the fact that it implies the service can help people cheat on their loved ones (though how loved they really are is debatable, all things considered). It's in poor taste. Tickling, especially mixed in with racier stuff, may not be for everyone, but I hope people here agree that there's nothing wrong with it per se. Cheating is a different matter (in my opinion, anyway), and I feel the Ashley Madison ad's message is a very negative, inappropriate one.

That being said, I do thank you, Jeff, for providing more context about this. I also realize that, as much as I disapprove of the Ashley Madison ad and hope the TMF won't feature too many similar ads in the future, it's not up to me. So I guess I'll just shut up now and let you guys handle the TMF any way you see fit. But I did want to share my feelings about this issue.

If a tiny ad on a sidebar of a fetish site is what tips you over the edge to cheat, where does the problem really lie? People are to blame for their actions, not pictures.

While I just shake-my-head everytime I see the ad, I really don't pay it no mind....

I guess, to be frank, it's not really enticing anyone to cheat.... I mean, I'm not seeing anyone, but if I were, I wouldn't entertain it.... because I am committed.... Now, it does encourage those who are already thinking these thoughts, are likely not happy with their current relationship, or just like the idea of stepping out on their partner. Whatever///

Sigh...

Still missing my point, or avoiding it on purpose for some reason, but no matter. I'm done with this.

I agree with you, it's not my favorite slogan or ad or whathaveyou either, but at the end of the day, it's really not a big deal.

It's really just another personals site like any other. The whole ""have an affair" marketing ploy stemmed from studies conducted that showed that the majority of registered users on dating sites WERE married, already.

In a way, by marketing to cheaters, that company allows site users the opportunity to EXPECT that many of their dating prospects will be married, rather than be deceived when they discover it from lying prospects on other dating sites.

Like it or not, they're paying for ad space. Whether it comes from questionable dating sites or porn producers, money's still green.

I will admit it took me back a second but this is internet and a fetish site...so I was wasn't really surprised at all.

We're not exactly posting on a moral site here...you are lucky you don't see ads for far worse then a bit of adultery.

I didn't even notice it was there until it was actually pointed out.

So my good man or woman....what is moral then?
Why the should there be other stuff than tickling on the ads at this site?
And Im curious...what is far worst than "a bit of adultery" that could be on a add here?

It's my call to put the ad there, if there's anyone you should be looking to chop logic with it's me...

Unless one of us can provide the money to host this thing for a month we should be happy that it's here.

It's just an ad. It helps keep the website going. Would you rather avert your eyes from it or not have TMF?

So whats the logic in flagging "we think it's ok with adultery"?

I don't agree that that's what I've done, anymore than I'm saying I'm ok with other stuff that's being advertised here.

But if it comes right down to it, I actually don't care at all if people commit adultery, nor do I think that ad
is going to make it happen. But if people are unhappy sexually in their marriage and getting a little on the side keeps
them otherwise happily married, I'm not sitting in judgement on that.

And honestly, I think the idea that this is somehow morally objectionable is a little naive and presumptious. I'm not the marriage police,
and neither are you. Someone who clicks on that ad is doing it for their own reasons, and they might be perfectly good reasons that even
you might agree with if you knew them. Which you won't because it's nobody's business.

More importantly, to me at least since I'm the one that has to deal with it, the forum costs a lot of money to run. More than you
probably think. And this year it has lost a lot of advertisers. This ad is an attempt to try something new, to generate a new
potential source of income for the forum.

I don't condone adultery in the least...I think if one makes a commitment that he/she should always keep it. So, please don't misunderstand what I am saying.

Why should there be anything other tickling? Very good question, but I would imagine people around here aren't always exclusive to this fetish...we dabble in other areas too.

What could be worse....use your imagination. Think about it.

All I'm going to say here is that, this not being a "moral" site is a load of bullshit. Nobody here decides what's moral and what's not.

And the ad may be for a site we don't like but it's not really hurting anything being here.
