I have a question for all you older gentlemen. This may be a tad insensitive, but I'm curious.

Social norms would seem to have us believe that as you age, the age you look for in a sexual/romantic partner also ages. That middle aged men seek middle aged women, etc. That it's inappropriate to do otherwise.

This must be complete bullshit. Is it?

I mean, when you hear about older men going off with women half their age, it's always with reprimand. But come on. Surely that's a normal fantasy that no man would object to. When older guys look at porn, are they avoiding the 20 somethings that "are young enough to be their daughter!" I doubt it.

So what is it? Is the, "don't be ridiculous, I'm a grown man! She's just a kid!" sentiment a complete fallacy, just for show?

Basically my question is what supposedly, or does, happen as you age that makes attractive young women unattractive?


postscript; I acknowledge that, of course, there is no true beauty standard. I'm operating with the mainstream, media-supported image of beauty in mind, and obviously this question is only relevant to those who share this standard.
 
One person's opinion, aged 59 at present:

It is perfectly normal and natural for an older person, let's say 50+, to be sexually attracted to a much younger person, say in their 20's. Both men and women, both straight people and gay people, will likely find themselves attracted to a much younger person who fits their personal idea of beauty.

The real question is this: Why should the younger person feel any attraction towards the much older one? I am cynical enough to state the obvious reasons they might, that the older person has fame, power, wealth, or all three.

Pretty much. I'm 49 now. In the last 10 years I've had partners as young as 18 and as old as 60.

If someone doesn't like it, they don't have to look.
 
I've found that my "ideal" age for women I find myself attracted to has mirrored my own age. When I was a teen, I liked teen girls. When I was in my 20's, I liked chicks in their 20's. Now, in my 30's, I like women in their 30's. Just my preference I guess.

Of course, ask me about this in 30 years and let's see how I answer! 🙂

I'm only 28, but I'm pretty much on par with this. I've always found women within 5 years of my age bracket to be the most attractive. The older I get, this attraction also seems to progress in age.
 
I'm 52. Your questions have validity but like everything else in life it depends on the people. I have been attracted to women in their 20's and 30's. I won't deny it. I know a young lady who is truly into and married a man 25 years her senior. He isn't rich by any means so I would say she is genuine. We are all governed by our experiences and personalities. I like to think I'm practical. I go to gatherings and to NEST and I do give and receive hugs and kisses from a lot of young, pretty girls. Do I like it? Of course! Have I thought of acting on it? Sure! Do I act on it? Hell no. I am still smart enough to know that my running around all night times are over.After a while I would only look foolish. I already did my running around and was quite good at it too.


Now if a sexy 44 year old flirts with me things may end up different.

Well, I'm in the "could be your daughter" age bracket and I must say I prefer women who are a bit older simply because i haven't found any girls aged 18 19 or 20 that are capable of mentally challenging me. Most of them are still girls, instead of women who know what they want out of life.

From what I've always read and heard and observed, it's pretty natural for older men to be sexually attracted to younger women because they're at the breeding age; males of all ages are geared to spread their seed to the ripest eggs. For love and companionship however, in my experience men in their '30's and older tend to want someone with shared experiences and memories: I know the men in my life prefer a lady who remembers the '70's and '80's for long term romance even if they love looking at and occasionally fooling around with a cutie born after 1987 😉
 
For the most part, I've dated women my own age, however I'm attracted to ALL women so age has never been a preference. I've dated women a few years older and women quite a few years younger. When I was 18, I dated a 23 year old lady and when I was 24, I dated an 18 year old girl. I'm 37 now and my fiance is 34.

I must admit that I find young women much more attractive than older women. I don't know what it is... the ripeness of their bodies, the perkiness of their breasts, the flat tummy, the smooth legs, the full, thick head of hair, the innocent look. I suppose it's the ripe physical attributes that I find most appealing.
