Just when I think I've seen it all. This is the type of thing that makes
me want to go to law school and become the next Nancy Grace.

(CNN) -- From the time she was an 11-year-old, blue-eyed, freckle-faced blonde until she was a 29-year-old woman with two children, Jaycee Dugard was kept locked away in a shed by a couple police say abducted her.
Phillip Garrido is a registered sex offender, listed as having been convicted of forcible rape.

Phillip Garrido is a registered sex offender, listed as having been convicted of forcible rape.

She was more than 160 miles from home, and her family had no idea where she was.

Nobody else knew she was there except the couple that snatched her off the street in front of her house in South Lake Tahoe, California, in 1991, and took her straight to the soundproof shed, police said.

Dugard's pocket of Phillip and Nancy Garrido's backyard in Antioch, California, was so overgrown no one even knew it existed.

The details about Dugard's time in captivity emerged Thursday after one of Northern California's most enduring mysteries was solved and the Garridos were arrested and accused of her kidnapping.

Anyone who came across the couple's backyard, littered with garbage cans and a dishwasher, would assume that it ended at a six-foot fence.

"You could walk through the backyard and never know there was another set of living circumstances," said Fred Kollar, undersheriff of El Dorado County. "There was nothing that would cause you to question it. You can't see it from either adjoining property. It was presumably well arranged."
Don't Miss

* Sheriff: Kidnap victim, children kept in shed

But tucked away beyond the tangle of bushes, high grass and trees was a blue tarp that concealed the only world Dugard had known since her abduction.

The 10-foot-by-10-foot shed was equipped with a makeshift bathroom and shower, along with electricity supplied by an extension cord. Kollar compared the primitive conditions to camping.

Dugard lived for several years by herself in the shed, flanked by two tents. The shed was was locked from the outside.

She grew up and had her captor's children inside the shed, and raised them there. "None of them have ever been to school, they've never been to a doctor," Kollar said. "They were kept in complete isolation in this compound, if you will."

The children, both girls, are now 15 and 11.

"They are all in good health," Kollar said in response to a question about how Dugard and her children are doing. "But living in a backyard for the last 18 years does take its toll."

Oh wow. That's just... I don't know what to say to this. I can't imagine the ordeal that woman had endured since she was a child.

What makes this even more infuriating is that this guy had previously been convicted of rape...twice.

He had served 11 years for 50-year rape sentence...and served 7 months for another rape conviction. Seven goddamn months.

After we lock this guy up and throw the key away, can we go after the parole board that set him free in the first place? Twice? :banghead:

Sounds like the worst Lifetime movie ever made. I can't believe it's real.

Did you ever see that movie An American Crime? It was based on
a true story, and literally the sickest, most disturbing movie I've
ever had the displeasure of watching. I was shaking the whole
time, but couldn't turn it off, and I didn't sleep at all that night.
I even threw up once or twice during. I think this would be one
of those movies, if they ever make one of it.

Damn, Gina. What's it about?

P.S. Leave it Sarah to make me laugh in a thread about something so terrible. One of us is going to hell - I'm not sure if it's me or you LOL :ily:

Sounds very disturbing indeed. O____O Although I might watch it just to see the lovely Ellen Page, as I'm a fan of her acting.

I'm a fan of Ellen Page too, but I wasn't prepared to watch children (yes,
children) be forced by their mother to carve "*****" across her stomach
with pieces of metal heated with a lighter.

That story is close to that sicko in europe who had his own daughter in his basement for 20+ years and he continually raped her and thus fathered 6 or 7 children with her. She was just found about 2 years ago. She and most of her children had never been out in the sun in all those years.

I remember when this gal was kidnapped in '91. It was all over the news in Northern California and then kinda disappeared from the papers and news stories as leads disappeared. It's amazing they found her. I cannot imagine the frustration and fear that gal and her teenage daughters went through all those years. It's going to be hard on them familiarizing themselves with life in general but oh what a blessing to be free from that "prison" of a life they've had to lead.

I hope they throw the book at the couple who had her imprisoned all those years.

Evil is real. Very real.

This is pure evil. I hate pedos. I fucking hate pedos. Repulsive and heartbreaking. My soft side cries. My steel side burns for revenge.

Justice failed this young lady.

This is quoting someone at work earlier tonight...

"He should not be alive right now...." a nurse said it.

This asshole has separated these crimes that he committed from the events of his current life, one in which he "found God".

What is NOT too good for him?

and yet ANOTHER scumbag from my own backyard

Nope c7, sorry. Doesn't work that way. The rules were different back then.

The real kicker in all of this is going to be the statute of limitations~the laws regarding this type of activity have gone thru several changes since the original abduction and no one knows exactly how to proceed. I think they're all basically still in shock and understandably so. One thing's for sure~this would count under California state law as a "third strike" against Garrido, which pretty much means he'll be put away forever.

Real life friend and fellow broadcaster Walt Gray was the first person Garrido called for an interview. Hear the chilling interview here:

I can't put into words what I feel for any monster capable of doing what this monster did....it's not printable. I would say he deserves burning alive....but that would be too quick. He made that girl suffer for 18 long years.....made her parents suffer 18 long years; he deserves to suffer the longest, most torturous, most painful death imaginable.

I still wonder why people favour the death penalty if the people responsible for finding the people put on death row are failing so miserably at their work.
