Who wants to go see this movie?
I want to see it just so I can see what they think might happen ...
I mean how do you predict something like that?
And do you believe 12-21-12 is really the end of the world?

I don't.
I think if the world was going to end it would just ... end. No sign. No nothin'.
Just some natural disaster that was our own fault to begin with.

Your thoughts?

Holy crap where do I begin with this.

I SO want to see the movie, mostly because I kinda sorta partially believe it MIGHT just happen. The Mayans started it and several other cultures have also predicted the same date, cultures that didn't even know about each other at the same time have come to the the conclusion that the world is gonna go KABANG on the same date, same year. So, I dunno. Then again, a part of me thinks this is just another Y2k where I get all ready with my riot and looting gear, ready to hit up my local Best Buy and get myself a giant plasma flat screen and then...

Nothing happens. 🙁

Do Mayans still exist? They do, right? If it doesn't happen I'm gonna punch one in the face for getting my hopes up.

As for the world ending because of something that WE did. Yes. I've always believed that's how the world's gonna go kaput.

I don't want to see it.

And, I don't think anything is going to happen. Doesn't match up with what the bible says. Apparently things that where supposed to happen, haven't.

But, I'm with you Aimee. If it's going to end.. I srsly don't think we are going to know exactly when.

Oh come on. 12-21-12 is a cool date. It's like 06-06-06. It just seems like it's cool date's like those that get all of these "signs" and "warnings" about. But .. how? Nature is so random. Life doesn't go on a schedule time and date. It does what it wants when it wants.

You know .. my friend was telling me there was this religious guy a long time ago that got all these signs from God, I guess, telling him the order of the Popes up until the one we have now. Apparently when this Pope dies there isn't going to be another one because this guy .. Saint Malikai[sp?]... didn't predict anymore after him so technically that could fall into the 2012 scenario .. but what I don't understand is if people knew that this Saint predicted all the Popes in correct order [and he's been right] then wouldn't we already know that the Pope we have now is the Pope we were gonna have? Does that make sense?

Yup. One of these days Mother Nature's just gonna hit us all up with the biggest bitch slap we ever felt.

It really is! haha
And it better not be when I'm only 23 years old!

I think we're gonna go out like the dinosaurs and some other form of life is going to evolve and inhabit the Earth.

"But that won't happen for billions of years yet, Alvie."

The bible is a bunch of lies. People read into it what they want and interpret what they want. According to the bible, the world is only 6,000 years old. Really, it's probably around 4.5 billion years old.

Bahahaha. What a crock of shite concept for a movie. Saw the trailer at the cinema the other day, and I have to say I've almost never been less excited for a film to come out. A piss-poor plot, written by a director who seems to think that a lot of CG special effects will make up for his incredibly appalling storytelling.

And the worst part is, the only reason it's being made is because apparently half the internet thinks something of that ilk is actually going to happen.

I despair at humanities ability to work itself up into a tizzy, sometimes.

As for the world ending because of something that WE did. Yes. I've always believed that's how the world's gonna go kaput.

Actually no matter what we do ultimately the planet is going to be fine. We can make uninhabitable for humans, but the planet itself will be fine. As the late, great Mr. Carlin said:
"The planet has been through a lot worse than us. Been through volcanos, earthquakes, plate techonics, continental drift, solar spots, sun flares, magnetic storms, the magnetic reversal of the poles, Hundreds of thousands of years of bombardment by comets, asteroids and meteors. Worldwide floods, tidal waves, world wide fires, erosion, cosmic rays, reoccuring ice ages.... the planet isn't going anywhere. WE ARE."

Everyone is looking at that date as the end but what if its just the opposite and that date is nothing more than the beginning of the end ?

The Mayans as well as many ancient cultures were deeply involved with extra terrestrials.
The year 2012 might just be the end of the earth calender before the return of alien life on this planet.
The day could come and go without anything noticably happening....but then again...OMG... WE COULD ALL DIE !

Apparently, going by what I just saw, it is a movie about ice melting very slowly. Warhol lives on!

Looks like about as good as "The Day After Tomorrow". Fun effects.

And although the Mayans *supposedly* thought that the world was going to end in 2012 because that was where there calender stopped, a freind of mine explained that that is just where there calender ended; basically they ran out of room for anything more.

Like, if you were on the last page of your calender, December 31st, 2011, the world wouldn't end - you'd just go out and buy a new calender the next day.

Although 20.12 could also refer to the rising cost of movie ticket prices.

But Aimee, if it were a "natural" disaster, how could it be our fault? 😉

I'll probably see this movie. I love disaster flicks, no matter how campy, no matter how pathetic the acting, and no matter how stupid the plot. Dante's Peak, Armageddon, Deep Impact, Cloverfield, The Godzilla Movies, Twister, The Day After Tomorrow, The Towering Inferno.... It's a guilty pleasure of mine.

i agree. i saw the trailer yesterday before harry potter and it was very different from the one posted by aimee. the theater trailer seemed to involve lots of cgi catastrophes, making it look like much more of an action movie. i actually prefer the potential plot that aimee's trailer suggests which was completely lacking from the movie theater trailer.

Rob

i agree with rob that instead of being concerned about the fate of the earth and the end of the world in 2012, we should be concerned about the fate of humanity, which could do itself in by 2012.

while i am very eco-conscious and live with a very small footprint, i learned several years ago that being eco-conscious isn't about saving the earth, for the earth is resilient and will continue just fine without us. being eco-conscious is about saving humanity and the quality of life for our own and future generations.

it is unlikely i will see 2012 until it comes out on dvd or tv.

^I have heard that there is only going to be one Pope after this one.^

The Mayans and the bible are outdated.

The planet will be fine unless a meteor the size of the moon collides with it. Furthermore, the closer the Earth moves to the sun, the more distorted our planet will become due to sheer magnetic force.

Quite frankly, unless a meteor hits the Earth, nuclear war erupts, or we all live to be a million years old, none of us will witness the total destruction of this planet. Besides, some of our population may be inhabiting other planets by then.

Guess what...

... what?

exactly!

Like this short talking. Nothing big will happen! 😉 This is only a disaster film. 🙂

Might be a good movie. I'll probably go see it.

But I will be sooooo glad when 2013 gets here, so we can put all this apocalyptic stuff behind us. The Mayan calendar doesn't actually say what so many people think it says.

I'll be seeing it. The story is no doubt utter shit, but I have a hard-on for large scale destruction.

I still think it's fun to question and wonder about.
I mean we don't know ... and that's a fact. Anything could happen.

U think the "world as we know it" will come to an end eventually, but that doesnt mean its ultimate destruction nor will it happen any time soon....

Not much to dwell on so we just keep on living life....

As for a movie? Just an interprtation of an interpretation of things with no factual evidence, so no...I will pass..
