Actually, this brings up a really interesting but way-left field sort of consideration in a weird ass-backwards kind of way:
Out of all the teachers who have sex with students, only X% of them are predatory; another Y% percentage of them are consensual in some way, shape or form.
With that in mind, has anybody done any research anywhere to see if the teacher-student dynamic falls prey to the same forces of attraction as those of people working in offices, military installations, or other closed social circles?
Humans have a LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLONG history of shacking up with the people they share space with after certain periods of time--I chalk this up to human instinct to form communities no matter how small in whatever sized "-cosm"--and since students tend to date/mate the people THEY share space (school) with, you have to wonder if the dynamic applies to teachers and students as well.
Now, a teacher SHOULDN'T shack up with a student because of the conflict of interest...but if a teacher isn't preying on their students and there's a mutual attraction, then the phenomenon might be much simpler--with much more complex implications--than we're currently imagining right now.
Either way, I'm eager to see the Anti-Pedophile Nazis clash with the Anti-Discrimination Warriors and watch an all-out bloodbath on cable news. Epic clusterfuck!
