Actually, why shouldn't Tookie Williams be compared to Nelson Mandela? They were both imprisoned for multiple murders (Mandela's was a bomb that mistakenly took out a schoolbus instead of the polic or army vehicle it was intended for) and both had giagantic campaigns for their release, led by mostly brainless assholes with a sprinkling of genuine sympathists.

Well to be strictly honest, he didn't; it was the A.N.C.'s paramilitary wing. He was of course a leading light in the A.N.C. during the Apartheid years. Sort of like saying Gerry Adams and MArtin McGuiness were directly responsible for the Birmingham pub bombings.
