I love that picture. I was hoping I'd see it in photographic form. I was watching it on tv when they lit up the "Towers" and thought that was a lovely tribute.
OK, just a few random ramblings....
When I went to NY a few weeks ago, I took a lil ride on the SI ferry. My friend, Sarah, swore to me it was the best way to see the Statue of Liberty lit up at night. It was NOT a disappointment. I stood out there in 20 degree temps with the wind freezing my eyelids open to stare in awe at the Lady.
I'm such a weepy girl sometimes. ANYWAY, whilst I stood there captivated, my eyes drifted to the shorline. Sure, we've all seen pictures of that view, but to see it in person...WOW. But my virgin glance at it was without the Twin Towers. Everyone else out there was staring at the Mona Lisa without her smile....I just saw it all. That was my first impression of the NYC skyline....I've no comparison. I felt angry at that, but blessed at the same time that it took my breath away still. My first glance of the skyline was still that of the most awe inspiring place I'd ever seen. There was this light above the city. I'm sure those who live there and have visited know what I'm talking about. The lights of Manahttan cause a halo effect. To see that shimmer of light reflecting in a halo over the tip of the island where the towers once stood...well, THAT choked me up. I don't think my friend, the NYC native, even noticed it. I guess it's good to use fresh eyes once in a while.
OK, enough for now. Just had to babble a bit.
