"Soles" never bothered me nearly as much as "armpit". Ugh. What a nasty-sounding place to visit. Not nearly as sexiful as a nice, smooth, ticklish "underarm" is. The word just sounds smelly and sweaty and unpleasant.
And then there's those intellectuals who insist on saying "barefeet" instead of the words "bare feet". It's not a word, and it just sounds incredibly ignorant to me.
i actually hate the word feet. i just get this picture of gross messed up feet in my head. where as soles are usually much more pleasant to look at. unless the whole foot is nasty. then it's a lost cause.
I don't personally mind any words for feet , but do find myself using more common terms; like bottoms of feet vs soles and toes vs tootsies. It just sounds better and is more acceptable to the public.
As an amateur song writer, the more words there are that apply to any one thing (such as feet), the greater flexibility I have in creating rhyming verse.
That said, I don't ever see myself using the word "tootsies" outside of a Paul Lynde impersonation.
