What with NEST coming up soon, and some people getting planes to Philadelphia, I was wondering...

Do you enjoy flying? Or is it mind-numbing torture for you?

Personally, I love it. It's exhilirating being 10 miles above the surface of the earth, with nothing between you and it but the aircraft and a lot of air. The only bad things I can think of are the plane crashing, the bad food and some kid kicking the back of your chair. But I can cope with those. 😀

Love flying, even though I was terrified to do so. Now that I have its awesome. Wish I still had a reason to fly now.

You can cope with your plane crashing?? 😱

I haven't flown since I was 16, but I enjoyed it. Not amazingly exhilarating, or terrifying. Just cool 🙂

It's a way to get to Point B that doesn't involve renting a car.

Snail Shell

I enjoy it. I only love it when I'm in the cockpit behind the yoke.

If you're a frequent (or even infrequent) air traveler, I highly
recommend reading up on www.flightsfromhell.com. 😀 It's
very amusing. I also recommend for in-flight reading: Plane
Insanity by Elliott Hester, and Around the World in a Bad Mood
by Rene Foss (both former flight attendants). Hilarious reads.

When we take off I still look out the window and get a little buzz watching the ground fall away, despite it being something I've done 50+ times.

Now if we can find some way to get rid of airports, will all the queuing, standing around and the security checks we have to put up with now that'd be even better. I know it's necessary but it still winds me up taking my shoes off so I can put them through an x-ray scanner.

I think they've gone full-on retard with the whole bottles thing and the shoes thing and even nail clippers. IMO it's just so it looks like they're doing something.

If it's common fact that removing shoes is part of flying now, I seriously doubt anyone's going to make another shoe bomb.

I HATE that guy. That ONE douchebag ruined it for everyone else.

To veer off topic just a bit, it seems to be that the people who run Vegas casinos are more affective when it comes to security.

I love flying...it's been too long. It'll be a while before I can afford to go anywhere though. Hoping to go to Scotland for a visit in 2010.

Yeah, sorry about that assclown, he's not one the UKs proudest educational achievements.

And yes, the whole 100ml limit on any liquid or gel thing is a pain too. It might be for security reasons but the airport shops and airlines take the piss by massively marking up soft drinks knowing you can't even bring a can of coke through the security check point.

The weird thing is, although the whole shoes / liquids thing is pretty much standardized across Europe the policy on cigarette lighters isn't. I took a flight a couple of weeks ago and my mate had his confiscated and I didn't. Same airport, different security guys.

I absolutely without a doubt LOVE to fly. I love it so much that my wife and I actually flew to Chicago for lunch and dinner last May. Working for the airlines has amazing perks

I love flying, once you've got past the check-in, security checks etc.

I love take off and landing, the only thing I'm not totally enamoured with is the turbulence when it can be quite bad sometimes, it makes my ears hurt and sometimes makes me feel sick.

Love it: I find it exhilarating and peaceful, I love the clouds and the view, being short means it's easy to move around for me, I get caught up on my reading (and I love all the random doofus items in the Skymall catalogue)...I love flying :chill:

i don't like flying
but love commercial jets
& aeronautical engineering

yes i am strange i get that!!!
🙂

I fly often (a few years ago it was monthly), but I'd say I don't have any great like or dislike for it. An aeroplane is the only place I find I am able to take a nap during the day, so I suppose I am comfortable with it. Having flown a great deal before 2001, I detest the increased hassle flying today brings, but that's nothing to do with the actual flight itself.

me personaly i am not fond of planes i have never been on one before and not sure if i would or not but with nest me and saeria are driving down i enjoy looking at the sceneary and stuff and the freedom to stop when we want and got out of the car and stretch and stuff

You say this like you've been around longer than Ray! :grandpa: :microsmiley: :pukefight:

I really hate flying actually. It's not that I'm scared, though there is a bit of initial fear when taking off, but I tend to feel sick on airplanes. Something about the dry air, the pressure, and the usual overly-warm temperature makes me feel light headed and nauseous. It's probably nerves too since when I'm on a plane, I'm usually on my way to see someone I haven't seen in a while and am probably way too excited. I can't remember a NEST where my knees weren't shaking as I got off the plane. I always expect to pass out or something lol.

Love the flying part.Hate the hassles and long lines in airports.:ranty:

I like the actual flying. 😀
However, there are two related aspects that I hate:
1. Sitting in a narrow seat with insufficient leg room.
2. The long lines to get through airport security.

1. Sitting in a narrow seat with insufficient leg room.

That's a problem for me,being almost 6'3".I always reserve an aisle seat when i can.At least i can stretch my legs when no one is walking around.

Oh good heavens no. Just a bit before 2001. 'Course, when someone like my dad complains about how he used to be able to just walk on the plane, no security at all, THEN you know you've found an old fart. 😀

I initially hated the idea of and was scared of flying. Now for NEST, about to get on planes 13 and 14 since October, the fear is gone, and I hate it for different reasons. The first being all the silliness mentioned above about what you can and can't bring on, buying 2 use tiny containers of toiletries, and taking off my shoes in an area that has equipment so sophisticated that it can actually detect the smells of harmful chemicals because some nut job who tried to light his shoe is just a drag. The second and more important reason is it just isn't very comfortable when you have a 52" chest size. When I actually have a row, or even 2 seats to myself, it just makes the entire trip 100% better. Coming home from NC for Katie's munch, a couple people didn't show up and the flight attendant moved the guy in the middle of my row to an isle seat 3 rows up giving him and the guy next to him and empty middle seat, along with myself and the gentlemen by the window in my row one also. The flight was epic. I even ordered a sandwich on the flight and kicked back. I think the older guy was even happier than me for the room because he had just got off of a 10 hour flight from London and making the last leg to Denver and he was able to stretch out and crash.

Overall the idea of being able to cross the country in a matter of hours is pretty awesome though, and always amazing. I remember flying into Albany and just starring out the window during the last 10 minutes on final approach and admiring the forests covered in snow and it was just so beautiful. So to wrap up, Baldadonis said it best when describing flying when I was scared about getting on a plane to go visit him back in October when he said, "there's nothing to fear to fly, and it is usually a very easy trip and you'll see after a couple of flights there was nothing to be scared of....that's when you'll hate flying for the reason most people hating flying; it's just a fucking inconvenience". Enjoy your flights to NEST, and I'll see you all there. :triangle:

I personally don't really have a problem with it . The lines and security checks are a pain in the ass tho .
