ALL Time favorite bands/artists

Gosh, too many to name. Some that come to mind are John, Paul, George and Ringo. (Beatles of course, LOL) Simon and Garfunkel, Billy Joel, Neil Diamond, as well as many various artists and individual songs with top 40 hits. The 4 singers/groups I listed are my favorites, though. Good thread. Iam going to be interested to see how this turns out.

Without a doubt, my favorite band of all time is The Beatles! They changed the way people listen to music in the short time they were together. (Remember, bands like U2 have been together nearly 25 years)

And of course, I'm a diehard Jimi Hendrix fan as well.

Definitely Lynard Skynard- Songs like "Simple Man" and "Free Bird", so good.

Elvis Presley- His song "Crying in the Chapel" was so inspirational

George Jones-of the Country Music Association's top ten greatest country songs of all time, he has like 6

I have many favorites... but...

my single all-time most favorite band would be Triumph.

Steely Dan
Electric Light Orchestra
Yellowjackets
Styx
Eagles
Spyro Gyra
Swing Out Sister
Billy Joel
Uriah Heep
Three Dog Night
Pat Benatar
And the list goes on and on and on....

My list consistes of classic rock:

Rush
The Who
The Beatles
The Rolling Stones
Pink Floyd
Cheap Trick
Led Zep
The Ramones
Asia

Wow, Tummydragon...I thought I was the only Triumph fan here! In an era where hard rock consisted of the same "rock all night, get laid all day" or "everything sucks" messages, Triumph's themes of "Positive Inspiration" helped drive me along. Not to mention that they kicked more ass in one song than any hard rock band today does in a career. (Anyone remember real guitar players?)

My list of faves:

Rush
Triumph
Marillion
Asia
REO Speedwagon (mostly the pre-radio-hits days)
Peter Gabriel
Journey
Jethro Tull
Led Zeppelin
Yes

The one favorite band of mine above all other would be Aerosmith. Hands down, no one else comes close.

Ok I know im changing the genre (I spelled that wrong I just know it) here but Tupac is my favorite artist.

Psycho

the Moody Blues

yes

ELO

the beatles

the Bee Gees

the Doors

crosby, stills and nash

Oh yeah, I have been a Truimph fan since 1978 when I first saw them at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta (free tickets won from a local radio station). I didn't have a clue who they were before that night. Man what a fantastic, totally kick ass show. They had two albums out at the time, "Rock and Roll Machine", and "Just a Game". I went out the next day and bought them. Spent the next several days learning "Fantasy Seranade", and then a few weeks perfecting it. Rik Emmit is probably the sole reason I began playing classical guitar. I learned and mastered every acoustic solo on every Triumph album, from "Finger Talkin'" to "Petite Etude" to "Midsummer Daydream".

I agree, the positive message delivered through their lyrics was a refreshing boost in an era where sex and drugs were the cultural rock icons. Songs such as "Hold On", "Magic Power", "Fight The Good Fight", "Never Surrender", "Sombody's Out There" -- just total positive messages yet still kick ass rock. I also credit Rik Emmit for keeping me out of the drug scene because of the mental awareness necessary for dissecting his guitar playing and then committing it to memory (I smoked my share of the wacky weed, but never progressed to harder drugs, and then I cut back on pot so I could actually learn faster. heh).

My second all time favorite band is Rush. It seems we have very similar taste in music.

Queen
Pink Floyd
David Bowie
Golden Earring
AC/DC (Bon Scott Era)
Rolling Stones (75-95 Era)
ELO
Genesis
Peter Gabriel
Elvis Costello
Alec R. Costandinos
Falco
Giorgio Moroder
Bee Gees

Alan Parsons Project, Queen, ELO, The Beatles, Stones, Genesis, Aerosmith

XOXO

Earth, Wind & Fire
The Isley Brothers
Janis Joplin
Otis Redding
The Byrds
Bob Dylan
Elton John
