I'd like to apologize to the community for troubles and strife experienced or caused by events of Sunday past. (Shempday) Ann has posted a thread regarding some of the workings of Shempday, made as I was penning this. That thread has made this apology more important, not less. She has explained the event, but none of the blame can rest on those gathered for Shempday. The word filters and altered logos (although those were not made by me) were put in place entirely by me, and any blame or credit thereof should be placed nowhere other than on my shoulders. Whatever may have been involved in the planning of the event, in the end the one who created the filters was myself, the one who added the logos myself, and the one who turned both of these on, again, myself.
Anguish suffered during the event and flaring tempers in its aftermath have their origination in my errors. I should have, but did not, give greater and deeper consideration to what the filters would do when turned on. The troubles many experienced when trying to log in, read their PMs, or simply browse the forum should have been anticipated and considered by me. As the one who knew of the filter and brought it into use, any responsibility for their effects cannot be placed anywhere other than in my lap.
An aside must be made with regards to PMs: no one read any of your Private Messages during, before or after Shempday. No one ever has gone through and read the Private Messages of members. The filters were global; all parts of the forum felt their effects. If you return to those PMs now, you'll notice that the filtered words are as they should be.
Again, whatever you may think of Shempday or its planners, none of the consequences of this year's forum changes can be placed anywhere but on my shoulders. When the filter issues first became apparent, I should have immediately pulled them all down; I did not. I waited too long to remove the worst of them and far too long to remove them all. The consternation brought during the event and, especially, the broiling tensions seen now around the forum are my burden to carry and remember. I would hope, but cannot demand, that everyone involved will look beyond my misjudgment here and find common ground again with those they now engage in argument with. I cannot ask, and would understand, if any among the membership find my apology inadequate. Any among you are welcome to send me a message if you have further complaints or frustrations you need to air; I promise to give each my full attention and thought.
The privilege I have in the community to make the changes I did should be exercised with greatest care and restraint; it was not. All this could have been avoided had I put some forethought into it; I did not. For these and other errors, everyone here has my deepest apologies. Thank you for reading. Whether worthy of a response or not, this need be said. That I waited two days to say it is bad enough.
