Mary Beth was a fan of watching Home Shopping Network as long as she could remember. She stumbled upon it as a little kid and watched it after school every day. It wasn’t that she was a compulsive shopper, or that she was terribly interested in the products, but rather she loved watching the hosts. After a few years she knew them by name and she wanted to do that for a living. She went to college and studied both marketing and broadcasting.
After graduation she found herself working in sales for Homedics, with the added bonus of being able to choose which products she gets to sell. She leafed through the upcoming products that will be coming out and she came across a new one that she had never seen before. It was called the “Pedi Pleaser”. This one caught her attention, because she was a sucker for getting her feet rubbed. It was something she enjoyed, but wasn’t the most trusting to give others access to her feet because of how ticklish she was. She went home with the marketing materials and looked them over with a nice cup of cocoa. She watched some product demos of the this “Pedi Pleaser.” A look of confusion mixed with shock comes over her face as she notices the ladies trying the product on themselves. Each one of them is smiling at the camera, but she can see them trying to hold back laughter. This was a foot massager like she’d never seen before. It appeared to have the sole purpose of tickling soles. Like others, it was a white, battery powered massager about a foot long, but instead of having 1 or 2 circular massage heads, this one had what appeared to be blue, plastic, mechanical fingers that moved exactly like tickling fingers would, and people were suppose to find it relaxing to do this to themselves. There is no way she would be able to demonstrate this on herself and convince anyone that it was relaxing. Just as she finished the clip, her phone buzzes. It’s a text from her boss. “HSN bought Pedi Pleaser. They want to start showing it on air on Monday. Will you be ready??” Thoughts of being tickled on national television flew through her head. She wasn’t sure if she would be up to the challenge. She flipped on HSN to get some inspiration and her favorite, Shannon Smith was presenting pedicure products with a guest host. These were products they were simply talking about, no demonstrations, and then her ears perk up Shannon says “If you are like me, I hate going to get a pedicure, I’m just so ticklish, so this is a great product to have in the privacy of your own home.” Wheels started turning in her head. Maybe she could use the product on someone else instead of herself! She texts her boss back and says “Absolutely. Any idea who I’ll be presenting with?” He quickly replies back with “Shannon Smith.” Perfect! This could be fun!
She spent the rest of her weekend researching the product, coming up with it’s benefits, who would be the target audience and brainstorms a way that she doesn’t have to use it on herself. Her solution comes in wardrobe. She will wear a shoe that is difficult to remove. The doorbell rings. It’s the Pedi Pleaser. She had it overnighted so she could try it in private to see how it worked. She opens the box, and it looks as intimidating as it did on TV. She pops the batteries in and turns it on. “Oh crap” she thinks “Let’s see if I can try this on a low level” She sits down and crosses her leg and holds her ankle. The fingers lightly go over her sole and immediately she shrieks and giggles. “Bahhahaha! Oh no this isn’t going to work at all! Let’s try a really fast setting” She puts it back on her foot “OHHHOHOHOHOHOH NOOOHOHHO.” She turns it off and sets it on her coffee table. Pacing around her living room she stares at the little devil. “Well, I gotta wear boots!” She packs it in the box and gets a good night sleep.
The next morning, Mary Beth woke up bright and early, showered and got ready. She was a very attractive young lady. About 5’3’’ petite, but busty, with shoulder length blonde hair. Many of her friends told her she could be a Reese Witherspoon double. She picked out her outfit for the day which was a black knee length flared skirt, a white top, black tights, and she picked out the best footwear for the occasion…high leather black boots. She was all set.
She pulled into the studio about a half hour before show time. She was whisked into hair and make up, and looking to her right, she sees Shannon Smith sitting right next to her. She introduces herself and lets Shannon know that she is a big fan and that she will be presenting a new product with her. Shannon looks at her cards to review what the product is, and she looks over to the table where the Pedi Pleaser is displayed. “OH MY! That looks intimidating! You are suppose to put that on your feet? Without going into hystarics?? I don’t know about that. We may need to have a model demo that.” A producer interjects “There’s no model for this hour Ms. Smith.” Her eyes widen and she looks to Mary Beth for a resolution. “Well”, says Mary Beth “I used it last night, and I can assure you as someone with very ticklish feet, it’s actually quite relaxing. You’ll be fine. If worse comes to worse, I’ll use it on myself.” Shannon breathes a sigh of relief as they are told that the Pedi Pleaser is right after the break. They get out of their make up chairs and Mary Beth studies what Shannon is wearing. A red jacket, black dress pants, nude nylons, and heels that can slip off easily. PERFECT!
They rush to the set which is a couch and the director cues them in. Shannon waves to the camera from the couch. “Well Hello! And welcome to the hour of wellness and pampering ourselves. We just had Valentine’s day, so this hour is full of products that could be great for your loved one if you missed the mark the first time on their gift. The first product we have is brand new from Homedics and I’d like to introduce Mary Beth Gibson on her first airing here at HSN Hello Mary Beth!” Mary Beth Smiles “Hello Shannon, it’s great to be here, and yes this is a brand new product from Homedics called the Pedi Pleaser. How many of us don’t need our Peds Pleased now and then? Shannon cheesily raises her hand “I do! I do!” “Well Shannon today is your lucky day! I happen to have one here, and I’d love to show you how it works!” There is a pause while Shannon expects Mary Beth to use it on herself. “Shannon…would you mind removing your shoes please?” Tension and shock show through Shannon’s eyes as she realizes she has been lied to and has to go with what the guest is asking for on air. “Well..are you sure YOU don’t want to use it? Mary Beth?” “Well, Shannon, I used it last night, and let me tell you, it’s SO relaxing. However, I wore boots today that were impossible to get on…I don’t think I’ll be able to get them off in time for this demonstration.” She giggles. “But it looks like we can pop your shoes off and I can get a hold of those feet to Please them as they have never been pleased before.” Shannon is furious, but must oblige. “Ok, well be careful with me!” she says with a forced smile as she slips off her shoes, sits back and puts her lovely feet beautifully encased in tan nylon on Mary Beth’s lap. Mary Beth turns on the buzzing, vibrating machine that also has wiggling fingers. “Well Shannon you are in for a treat. Let me start at the heel of your feet, we’ll see how this feels on a light setting, as if someone is liiightly stroking your feet.” There is a close up of Shannon’s toes completely curled in anticipation as the device meets her extra sensitive feet. Her ankle contorts the second pressure is put on her feet and she begins to wiggle her entire body. She tries her best to get words out, fighting back laughter. “Now…this is an interesting….feeling…it haha…ohhh dear. How about we try a different setting?” “Ok Shannon, let me try the next level up, and have it massage your toes, and just under them.” She flips a switch and it begins to buzz a little louder, the fingers moving a little faster as Mary Beth with one hand bends Shannon’s toes back and with the other digs the massager into her foot, right under her toes. Shannon grabs the couch, cocks her head back and lets out a full belly laugh that goes from hearty to a high pitch, feminine giggle “HAHAHA heheh ohhh …ohhh Mary Beth, I’m getting distracted and we aren’t able to talk about the benefits of the product, I may be to just too ticklish to have someone else do this to me. But folks at home. You know, even if you are ticklish I think you will be fine doing it on your oowhohohohohhhh!!!! Mary Beth switches the setting again to the highest level and runs the fingers of the massager all over Shannon’s soles. Shannon begins laughing uncontrollably, but remains her adorable self as she ends the presentation. Well this is certainly gooohoohood for a few lauuuahhahaghs. They sign off and Shannon rips her feet away. “How dare you do that to me on live television! How dare you?!” Mary Beth starts to act innocent and explain herself as a producer runs in “Shannon that was great! We are nearly sold out of the first batch of Pedi Pleaser, even though you guys hardly got to talk about it. We’re definitely going to need Mary Beth back to do that again! People found it very endearing. Good job Mary Beth!” Shannon shoots her a look as they set up for the next host’s presentation.
Shannon puts her shoes back on and Marches to her dressing room, Mary Beth following her, hoping to apologize, although she knew full well what would happen. “Save it!” Shannon barks as she slams the door. Mary Beth waits outside the door, quietly knocking hoping Shannon will talk to her, having no idea she’d react so negatively. Shannon opens the door looking like she could breathe fire. “Come in.” Mary Beth walks in “Shannon, I just wanted to say, I’ m sorry. I had no idea-what’s that?” Mary Beth spots a strange looking device in Shannon’s dressing room. “It’s a hang up inversion table…you lock your ankles in and you can lay back. It’s good for your back….I use it every day.” “Oh! That’s cool. Can I try it?” Wheels begin to turn in Shannon’s head as she plans revenge on the unassuming Mary Beth. “Of course. No hard feelings. I think you’ll really like it. It’s fun. You won’t fit if you have your boots on, so you’ll have to take them off first. Then I’ll help you get in.” Mary Beth takes a seat and unzips her boots and steps out of them, steps into the ankle locks, as Shannon locks her into place. “Ok, now just lean back” Mary Beth does and she has fun with the machine for a few minutes as Shannon stares at her cute size 6 feet hidden in black tights. “Let me show you something” says Shannon, as she adjusts Mary Beth so she is completely horizontal, as if she is laying on a table top with her ankles locked in. She locks the table in place. “Wait, I can’t move” Mary Beth says, noticing Shannon locking her door. “Did you know all of our dressing rooms are sound proof? They have that so we can practice our presentations without disturbing others.” Shannon pulls up a chair right at the foot of the inversion table, sits down so Mary Beth’s helpless feet are right in front of her face. “So Mary Beth. Did you say that you tried the product out and you are very ticklish and you found it relaxing??” Mary Beth giggles “Well, I may have bent the truth on that one.” “which part? That your feet are ticklish or that it was relaxing.” Mary Beth begins to realize what is happening “Well, that it was…oh no….oh no no no no Shannon, you can’t….please I beg you.” Shannon pretends not to hear the pleas. “You don’t mess with a pro, rookie…I don’t need any tools, I got these!” She shows her wiggling fingers as she begins to play with Mary Beth’s feet. Lightly stroking her soles. This causes Mary Beth to close her eyes tight, bite her lip and make muffled sounds fighting back laughter. “ooohhhohohohoo! You are ticklish! I’m going to have some fun with you!” Shannon digs her fingers into Mary Beth’s soles, her tights making a scratching sound and Shannon’s fingers fly. Mary Beth is bucking uncontrollably, almost causing the table to fall over. NOO NOO NOHHOHOHOHNOONOHOHONON PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! I’m SO SORRY!!! “I don’t know if I believe you.” Shannon says in a loud voice to overpower the desperate screaming coming from Mary Beth. This goes on for about 10 minutes. Mary Beth screams, flails, her feet contort in ways that she didn’t know they could. She is completely desperate and helpless. Tears are running down her face by the end…Shannon lets up for a second. “I’ll make you deal Mary Beth. I will stop and let you go if you promise that next time, I get to use the product on you on air.” “But Shannon!” At the hesitation Shannon drags one finger from Mary Beth’s heel to toe. “Okokokok!” Mary Beth says, sweating. From now on…. You can use it on me….maybe once I get my turn we can get that Chris Scanlon some foot treatment. They both laugh, Mary Beth louder, as Shannon does not keep her promise, and tickles her helpless feet for 5 more minutes.
