Thriller-inspired musical in the works

Who could forget Thriller, Michael Jackson's legendary music video that once threatened to convince us that the singer had a genuine affiliation with the occult (luckily he provided a disclaimer for us)?


Reuters reports that the immensely successful video – which cost about 10 times the amount of a standard music video in 1983, when it was released – will be made into a musical theater production.


The Nederlander organization, which owns eight broadway theaters in the U.S. and one in the U.K., has acquired the rights to produce the musical. The organization is known for its work on major musicals like Rent and Hairspray.

For those concerned that Jackson's vision will be lost in the transition, fear not, as he will "participate in every aspect of the creative process."


I'm officially a cranky old person from the '80's, because this seems wrong to me and I quite don't know why

Perhaps it seems wrong becuase they are taking a very good piece of work and cheapening it by adding a longer storyline and more music and turning into something it shouldnt be....

Why cant they do original stuff and leave other works as they were meant to be.....

Hon, Thriller is 5 yr older than you. You weren't alive for the INSANITY that was Thriller-mania in the early-mid '80's, we old folks can't help but feel like something kinda precious is being cheapened a bit .

Ah well...maybe they'll put Donnie Osmond in it and really destroy our psyches

Sadly they can't do original stuff because it seems that no one has an original idea. Tht or they don't want to both to sell an original idea relying on the original fans to bring in the money for often poorly do remakes that butcher a well loved story. What you can't expect them to really put i any effort can you it's not like oh their job and you know not like they chose to entertain the masses? Damn you and your crazy expectations. Sit down be quiet and and don't complain when they destroy well loved characters and stories it's all you're going to get. *sigh*

Well, this old crank was alive for the insanity, and all I can say is when it comes out, you all will have your Thriller jackets on, trying to see if you can still do that zombie dance at the end of the video again

In the entertainment industry's mind: original = risky, repackaging something that was already super-successful = $$$$$. It sucks.

im inclined to agree, but ide not say its dead, just old and lazy, perhaps suffering from alzheimers but every so often has a burst of creativity and may give us a few decent songs a year 😛
