Izzy do you know what year it was? :bunny:

My first car was a 1968 Ford Fairlane 500 Fastback. Gold exterior with black interior. She had 2 doors, race rims, and could really haul the mail. I called her Daphne. :xpulcy:

I drove about a '74 Chevelle though it was my parents in name. The thing struggled to go much over 55 mph. My first actual car was a yellowish Impala which was appropriate because it was a total lemon and an embarassment in the snow. Oddly enough I have a 2000 Impala now and love it. They still suck in the snow, though.

The first car that I drove, upon getting my driver's license, was a 1958 Ford belonging to my parents. At the time, it was a 9-year-old clunker with rust holes below the doors.

The car I got....

The car I got when I became old enough to drive (18 in NYC at the time) was not my first car. ( Statute of limitations on this ran out a LOOOOOONG time ago) First was a 1948 dark blue Ford coupe. No, it was NOT a new car. It was 15 years old, and so was I. 😎 When I turned legal, in 1966, I got a dark green, 1939 Hudson Terracruiser. Talk about a land battleship! :dog:
My first ever new car was a 1968 Dodge Charger with a 440 and a six pack, with syncromesh double overdrive and 4 wheel disc brakes. Black with crimson trim, inside and out. Ah, she was a sweetheart! :lovestory I named her the Bat Out Of Hell. :sowrong:

60-something Saab. Owned it for about an hour, traded it in for a '65 Plymouth Fury II (learned how to drive on Fury III, actually, in driver ed).

My first car was a real treat..... 🙄

1976 Ford Maverick. It was pea green, and in a moment of true fashion genius I picked up a pea green and white checkered scratchy wool blanket to use as a seat cover (the duct tape was not holding the vinyl together anymore). It had an unfinished 2 X 4 as a back bumper, since one of my friends backed his car into the front of mine while we were both reversing out of his driveway one afternoon and broke my rear bumper clear off the car in the middle of the street. It spewed oil so badly that the spark plugs had to be taken out and cleaned once a week or else the car spit and sputtered like a kid farting in the bathtub. It belched smoke like Cheech and Chongs pot van, without the pleasant side effects. The muffler was so rotted I could be heard roaring down the street from 1.5 miles away. My friends opted to walk the two miles to their houses after school rather than be seen in my pukemobile. :xlime:

The other car my parents went and looked at and considered buying for me as my first car was a gorgeous 1965 candy apple red mustang. But it was a manual, and since I had learned on an automatic and this was to be my first vehicle, they decided to pass on it and went for the Maverick instead.

I showed them, though. I only drove that beast for a year before I saved up enough to go and buy my own car.....a 1981 lemon yellow pinto. :cool2:

I'm still traumatized to this day.

another of my first cars was a white chevrolet impala, and i had to push the gas peddle all the way to the floor in order for it to crawl up a hill. i mean there i am going five or three miles an hour. talk about embarrassing, but i wasnt i was in college and the friends riding with me thought it was fantasticallly hilarious...

I didnt get a car until I was 17. A gift for my senior year. And what was it....
A Silver 1989 Geo Metro. I know it sounds bad..but it was a nice little car. Great gas mileage and it was brand new so I want going to complain. But Ill tell you what..I had that car filled everytime I left school early to go to the beach.

None of you can match this!!.......

....my first car was a Reliant Robin 850cc three wheeler. Due to a loop hole in the law in the UK it was possible to have a full motor bike licence, but this did not qualify you to drive a car, however you could drive a motor bike and side car combination just on a Bike licence. The loophole was that a three wheeler car was classed as a motor bike and side car.

So I got to have a roof on my head, a heater and able to carry passengers just on a bike licence!

The Reliant Robin a unique British driving experience!

I got my license in 1987, when I was 17. My first car was a 1982 Buick that my family had taken all over, with almost 100, 000 miles on it. After that, I had a 1983 Cutlass Demo, which was a real problem car, even though it didnt have that much milage on it.

A copper 1979 Ford Mustang - they were the same from '79-82 I believe... just after they stopped making the goofy style and right before they got cool again. Ran pretty good till the timing chain went out and my dad got his friends to "fix" it..... ahhh.. never ran quite right after that.

Mine was a brand new (love that new car smell) 2001 ford Mustang GT convert. Midnight blue with a black top and black leather int. Oh what a beast! And no, my mommy and daddy didnt buy it for me.... lol!

A 1980 Camaro Z-28. What a sweeeeeet ride. When you floored it, it would sputter for a split second, the flaps on the scoop would open and VOOM! you were thrown back into the seat and off to the races. DAMN! I miss that car. :cry1:

A dark blue Ford Taurus station wagon. Got it when I was 17, just thinking about it brings me back to hotboxing it, packing like seven people into the back, and driving to the beach on a Friday night to get drunk.

God, I miss high school sometimes.

I guess there were three stages.

I turned old enough to drive at 16.

I didn't get my first vehicle until I was 23 - it was a Honda motorcycle, 650CC.

I didn't get my first CAR until I was 25, when I needed to move everything I owned (including the motorcycle) from Chicago to Los Angeles. It was a 1980 Ford F-10 Pickup (I bought it in 1985) that I got from a roofing contractor in Chicago. Near as I could tell he had never washed it (and if you've owned a car through even one Chicago winter then you know what that means).

On the way from Illinois to California I replaced all four tires and the radiator as each blew, one after the other. When I got it out of the shop the key still had the mechanic's tag on it: "Rustbucket Ford."

Ah, memories.

Mine was a 1965 Catalina. I ran decendly however I was built like a boat. I got rear ended one day and the dent was about the size of a quarter.
