I can't get enough of this music. Went out and picked up a fuckin' copy of "bat out of hell" and haven't slept since.

Any other fans?

:xpulcy: Yes, yes, yes! :xpulcy:

Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman have never received as much credit as they've always been due - I'm soooo thrilled to see someone else as appreciative of them as I am!!

:twohugs:

Wow....

Yes.. Jim Steinman is my favorate composer.... just wish he would top recyling the same songs till they become hits... time for new ones

It's a guilty pleasure, but yeah, his stuff's got a certain charm to it.

Hot patoote! Bless my soul! I really love that rock and roll! 😀

Yes...yes I like Meatloaf

I'm sitting here looking at the Bat Out of Hell album circa 1977. Funny how popular it is today because it didn't sell very well back then. And yes kiddies, it is recorded on a flat, round, piece of vinyl we use to call a record.

And looky there! I just found Meatloaf's Dead Ringer album. Forgot I had that.

Ahhhh, K, records...with a penny on the stylus to play through the scratches... 🙄 You might have to explain the size ratio between a record and a CD, though, you know? I mean, can you imagine how long it would take to get all the seeds out of a nickel on a CD case..? :jester:

The glorious results of a misspent youth... 😀

I always used the Rare Earth double album for that. :jester:

Answer to the first question: no. Reminds me of the suburban high school I was attending at the time. Enough said.

I did want to mention, though, any further collaborative efforts between Artist and Producer/Composer are highly unlikely...they've had a major falling out. It's a shame, since each was really responsible for the other's success.

Yes. In fact, my father did some business manager work for him in the 70s. I know I've posted on here before about how my father was Kiss' business manager in the 70s. Meat Loaf was on the same label as Kiss, Casablanca Records, at the time, and my father was good friends with the guy who started the record label.
I love Meat Loaf's songs. My favorite song by him is Paradise By The Dashboard Light. Awesome tune.

Knox, is that extremely recent information? I just read within the last few weeks that they had decided to join forces yet again and were working together once more to produce yet another "Bat Out Of Hell" album; I believe I saw that on Jim Steinman's website (maybe), "Bat Out Of Hell IV"... they apparently reached an amicable agreement in the 2006 litigation fiascos and Steinman will continue to be a part of the BOOH "legacy", according to Virgin records.

I would hate to think after the anticipation that it fell though anyway! Although Mr. Steinman is notorious for being very strict and unwavering in doing things the way he wants them to be done--remember when Def Leppard had to scrap and restart the album he was producing for them because of "artistic differences"..?

Late to the party as usual. But I love Meat Loaf as an artist, and what I have seen on talks shows, interviews, etc, he seems like a decent guy too.

Jim Steinman is also an amazing talent too.

I'm going on what I've heard on recent radio broadcasts; there might've been a reconciliation, but with these two, it's starting to remind me of the reconciliations between Eddie Van Halen and David Lee Roth. I have one of those tiny little salt packets here from a recent take-out, there are quite a few grains in there! Want one? 😛 🙂

:jester: :jester: :jester:

Indeed, Knox...perhaps we should just go snag an entire salt lick from the nearest farmyard and take a swipe anytime we begin to ponder... 😉

Meat Loaf had some great songs back in the 80`s. And my mom used to make a terrific meatloaf every other Monday evening for dinner. So, to sum up my post I can truthfully say both Meat Loaf and meatloaf were a part of my youth. :smilestar

paradise by the dash board light?

"And I would do anything for love, but I won't do that, noooooooooo, no I won't do that..."
HUGE fan! So much fun to watch his career evolve! I remember this MONSTER guy cameo on a motorcycle, way back when in Rocky Horror. So much vocal talent it's scary and soooooooooo under-rated. But ya gotta give it to the guy~he never did the pitiful "notice me, get sick to DEATH of my sorry, always in your face J-Lo ASS" that some of the other celebretards fall prey to. His decision to appear only periodically may have hurt him financially... But, he's a rare true artist and doing it for the love of the art, more power to him. :bowing:
XOXO

There was a rift yrs ago..thats just before BOOH 2. It was one of those wonderful.. I will sue for rights thing. Both Loaf and Steinman were suing each other for control of the name BOOH. It was settled ( If I remember my facts right ) in a bar...screwed the lawyers.. and now we have them back. I really wanted to see Dance of the Vampires on Broadway before I left NY but with the move .. there was no time. BTW... Here is some Jim Trivia for you. Karla Devito sang on the video to Paradise. Who Sang on the Album and name 2 movies she was in.

This guy has quickly become like, my personal hero, hahaha.

Ooo! Ooo, I know, I know! :xpulcy:

It was Ellen Foley. She had bit parts in Hair and Tootsie; she also played an attorney, Billie, in the tv series Night Court for a single season--she was later replaced by Markie Post.

Karla DeVito took over Ellen's vocal parts when Meat Loaf went on the tour, but in the music videos "Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad" (Meat Loaf's breakaway hit) and in the original "Paradise by the Dashboard Light", she's actually lip-synching to Ellen Foley's voice due to fan reaction--they wanted to hear Ellen.

Karla DeVito is married to Robbie Benson, who was quite popular and in several movies during the 70s ("One on One" and "Jeremy" first come to mind) and who also did the voice work for the Beast in Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" (he had to literally fight to get that part as he has a very soft-spoken voice naturally); he then moved into directing and as a director did a notable episode of "Friends".

(I know you sorta asked Knox, fttickler, but I couldn't resist... 😀)

I like him too 🙂
My favourites are "Bat Outta Hell 1 & 2" and "Deadringer". I'm not so much into his newer production, but the old... My first contact with him was in high school, when "Kill Bill pt. 2" was in cinemas - first going out with a girl.

Added:
Of course, there was nothing between us. But sentiment still lingers on, especially connected with this music 🙂

Meat Loaf is the ultimate in rock in my opinion. Jim Steinman is also a musical genius. Just a shame he never got that Batman musical going...

Wowzers! And I thought I was a mountain of trivial knowledge. I kneel before you, Mistress :bowing:

Awww....

Well....yes, but...you're supposed to, Sean Man. Hence "Mistress Aura" see? Come on, keep up with me here.

Seriously, thank you for the compliment--for some reason, I can remember, like, 95% of what I hear and read about musicians and such, but I can't remember how to move a file from one place to another on this cussed machine... *sigh* 🙄

Meat Loaf also lost 84 lbs on the SlimFast diet and is now a strict vegetarian as well as a diabetic. Got his name Meat Loaf from his high school football coach after stepping on the man's foot and that's what the coach called him when he yelled at him. His American Express card even says "Meat Loaf" now instead of Marvin L. Aday, which is his real name...(See? It just keeps bubbling up...LOL)

Don't feel bad...I'm the same way...I'll never be a rocket scientist...but I can tell you that one of my idols, Casey Kasem, was featured in the cinematic classic "The Thing With Two Heads"

Rack me now....please :jester:

Hmmm...Mr. Kasem was also the voice for Shaggy on Scooby Doo, of course, but you knew that. And he's still married to that tall, beautiful blonde girl, Jean, who played Loretta Tortelli (Karla's ex-husband's second wife) on Cheers. I know he's also vegan, staunch enough that he'd asked for Shaggy's character to be portrayed as one, too, but I don't think that ever happened...and that he originally wanted to be a baseball player instead of a DJ. That's about it as far as my knowledge of him. 😀

Anyways--I know that Meat Loaf played dual roles, both as Dr. Scott and Eddie, in the theatrical version of "The Rocky Horror Show" and can be heard doing that on the play's soundtrack, but was only asked to reprise Eddie's role in the movie when it was cast.

There's also a really good made-for-tv biography of his that I saw twice, "Meat Loaf: To Hell and Back", that was made in 2000, but I've not had any luck locating it or seeing it again, drat it. W. Earl Brown portrays Meat Loaf (and does an amazing job) and Zachary Throne does just as well playing Jim Steinman. If any of the Meat Loaf fans haven't seen it and are lucky enough to locate it, I highly recommend watching--it's not a celebrity-splash film, it actually seems pretty factual, good and bad stuff. There's also an autobiography of the same title, I think the author is David Dalton, but I don't know if the movie is actually based on it or not (although you'd think it would be...LOL).
