Do you smoke?

Well then, you're not.

Please join me in trying to quit this godawful addiction.

Love, tickles, and Cheers.😀

Smoking? shit no way!

smoking is nasty and a bad very bad habit. plus not to mention you stink and smell like smoke fumes. my dad has smoked cigs for over like 15 or so years and thankfully he has no quit he hasn't smoked any cigs in over i think like 4 months.

but my uncle lee (on my dad's side) on the other hand he has smoked since he was 16 and he's 56 years old now and he still smokes to this day his finger nails are pitch black he has problems chewing his food because of his teeth being rotten and gone. and he always stinks like BO and his clothes have stains and big time holes in them. he's a mess he just doesn't care! about his apperence. but we still love him he is part of our family.

I dont smoke but ill say this...you have to be rich to afford a pack of Marlboro or a good brand cuz I see theyre like 7 bucks a pack! Thats unbelieveable! What happened to make cigarettes so pricey? 😕

Good luck Moses. I'll keep you in thought/prayer. I quit two years ago this past Christmas (part of my gift to Drew). It's rough at first. But, it gets easier. I found that having a sub for the cig helped. For me, it was fireballs. But, it can be gum or other things as well. You satisfy the oral craving. (No comments from the peanut gallery. 😉 ) Though my health still sucks, it's better than it was before I quit.

Good Luck to you, Moses, my friend. I wish you all the best. I've hardly smoked, save for a couple of puffs in college, and a pipe I used to smoke to fit in with my friends, who all decided to take up pipes, in my senior year of college.
As most on here who know me are aware, my mom smoked for nearly 50 years, until a cancer scare on Father's Day, 2003. She had tried to quit smoking for a couple of months about five years earlier, and ended up going back. This time, she walked out of the hospital on that Father's Day night in 2003, and has never had another puff. It has now been 21 months. Iam very proud of her. She went through serious nicotine withdrawal, but has licked it, and says now that she would never even consider another puff.
It may be difficult, but it can be done. Perhaps via a patch or such. My mom quit cold turkey with no patch. Iam glad to hear you are giving it up. It will make you healthier, and feel better.

My dad has smoked for about 30 years now. WHen my older brother and I were kids we used to try everything to get him to quit. THis includes taking my brother's hypodermic needles he had for allergy shots (my mom was a nurse so she gave them to him so we always had bags of disposable needles around) filling them with hairspray and injecting it into the cigs through the package. Imagine my father's confusion as one cig after another went "poof" into nothing as he lit it up. Too bad he was't as impressed by our genius as we were... 😀

Yesterday I celebrated my 9th month smoke free!!

I quit June 20th of last year with the help of the Nicotrol Inhaler. I honestly would not have been able to do it without that help. After smoking for 18 years, it was every bit as much of a HABIT for me as it was an addiciton. So I needed that inhaler to help me through the habit of holding something in my hand and putting it in my mouth and going through the motions. As I got over my addiciton to the nicotine, my need to use the inhaler to feed my habit decreased. I finally threw aside the inhaler shortly before Christmas, and I've not given it any thought since then. Had my biggest test Friday night when I went out to the bar with some friends. Smoking and drinking just seem to go hand in hand, so I knew it was going to be a struggle. Sure enough, with that first drink, my friend lit up, and I thought "damn, a smoke would be nice right about now." Two minutes later the thought was gone and never returned. The only smoking related thought that came to me at all the rest of the night was "GOD these people are rude! It's so f*cking smokey in here I can't BREATHE! Do they HAVE to blow it right in my face! I want out of here!"

It's not easy, but once you get through that first week, and then that first month, and then each passing month, you'll be more and more grateful that you DID quit. It's a wonderful thing.

Best of luck, Moses.

Mimi 🙂

I've never smoked myself, but my mother did, and she always said that quitting was one of the hardest things she ever had to do. I can only wish you luck and leave the advice to those who have gone through it.

I wish you the best, ye wanker of the north.😀

lmao!! That's great. You should write to the guy who does that "Curtis" comic strip and give him that idea (since in the strip, Curtis always seems to be tryin to get his dad to stop smoking).

Thank you for your best wishes and prayers, guys. It's gonna be rough, but I think I can tackle it with success...

*wrestles with a pack of peanuts*

Hey, you gotta start somewhere, right?

Cheers.😀

My brother and I had our share of "classic" experiments... we were WAY too smart for our own good.

Smartest move you could ever make!

I lost the two people closest to me in the world the last two years. Both from lung cancer. It's not pretty. It was made worse by the fact that it probably could have been avoided if they took the route you're taking now.

GOOD LUCK! I'll be hoping the best for ya.

Oh...and Mimi...ROCK ON YOU QUEEN OF THE NORTH! I'm so proud of you!

I have nothing but respect for Moses, Mimi and anyone who has decided to quit smoking after years of addiction. I tried smoking when I was in the Navy and all I did was end up feeding the fishes*, as it were.

*I threw up, for any landlubbers out there.

What I don't understand is, with all of the information available about the dangers of smoking, why do so many young people choose to light up?

I'm not hijacking this thread, but that is a very real concern of mine and I believe that this thread may have the power to help others who have smoking issues, or help prevent others from smoking, period.

I'm not really smoking, I'm just trying to quit chewing gum...

I started smoking when I was 9 years old (one of the younger kids trying to impress the older kids). I "quit" the first time when I was 19, for four whole months. I've stopped over 20 times. I had stopped for five years this last time until, believe it or not, i got bored sitting at a hopital with someone dying of cancer, and started back so I could walk outside and kill some time with a good smoke. *THE* most stupid thing I've done I think. Of course, I had all the rationalizations in tact - "I won't start back, it'll just give me something to do, it'll calm my nerves.. blah blah blah insert random idiotic rationalization here..."

I'm down to the point where a pack lasts me three days now, so I should go ahead and take the plunge and stop again. Maybe your success will inspire me.

Good luck with it Moses, seriously... keep at it until you succeed.

David

No promises

but here goes

There is a treatment being administered today using various combinations of drugs under closely controlled procedures which is producing various results. One of the drugs is named "scopolamine" (no quotes, forgive my spelling of things I don't know well) and I don't know the names of the other two. I don't remember if there was any electricity involved or not; I may be remembering overlapping articles; not really sure; but there may have been a set of electrodes; little or no pain if I remember it correctly.

Claims are bantered about: One doctor heralds astounding results while another doctor hurls accusations regarding lack of efficacy and so on. Both types of doctors are normally well respected in their community and their profession.

I'm certainly not qualified to say yes or no, but the drugs and treatments are out there, legal, and available. They are administered under highly controlled environments; I don't think you leave the building and you are monitored like every ten minutes or whatever; and then after one drug, you get another, and I forget about the electric thing to do its medical magic; don't really know all the details; please don't believe everything in this message because I didn't study the stuff more than 4 or 5 minutes if that much.

At $7 per pack, lasting 3 days, I roughly calculate an $850 habit. I could fix my old car in three years with that money.

Let the customer decide and live with the benefits and consequences of such decisions.

I remain astonished at those who have quit, on their own, in and of themselves, with no external assistance. Tobacco is an addictive drug with a very strong returning power to induce repeated behavior.

Anyway, if it works for you, great. Look it up on the web; there's probably a center somewhere within a day's driving distance

I leave this message with the same two words again: No promises.
