Baby # 2 and beyond: Do you have more showers/registries after your 1st child?

Lately it's just blowing my mind that some of my friends are popping
out kid number 2, 3, or even 4, and they still register for gifts and
have showers! My mom says that when she was pregnant, you never
knew the sex of the baby ahead of time, and everything you got was
gender neutral, so you used it with the next kid, and next. Now, I see
my friends registering for new items they already have! Like swings,
boppy pillows, cribs, strollers, carseats, etc! Are we really expected
to buy such large items three times??

I want to say something so badly on Facebook, because almost all
of my pregnant friends are on there. I don't want to hurt feelings, but
I want to show them, in a subtle way, how tasteless some of them are
being. Am I overreacting? What do you guys think about baby showers
and registries after the first baby?

We used the same crib for all 3 kids and they were each 7 years apart (and with 2 different wives) No way would I expect to get new stuff like that each time....

Bigger ticket items like a crib/carseat/etc can be reused unless it needs to be replaced (example: the carseat no longer meets safety standards/is damaged in some way.) I'd go for the necessities, like diapers/wipes/a few outfits (plus the clothes are just so darned cute! 😀).

Are the kids close in age? Perhaps they are still using carseats for one child and need help with the purchase of another. Same with the crib. Though some of the other things I can't explain.

One friend in particular only gets in touch when she's seeking donations
for a missions trip, or graduating something, getting married, or having a
baby. So gift-giving occasions. The other two kids are 3 (girl) and 1 (boy).
She's pregnant with a boy. The boy is in a toddler carseat. She has at least
one, if not two, infant carseats to use for new baby. Toddler is in a crib, and
she told me when she first found out she was pregnant that all of her babies
slept in a co-sleeper for the first three months. By then the toddler will be
ready for a toddler bed. And I can't imagine her toddler is still using an infant
swing.
