baby dies in shootout

An armed man and his 17-month-old daughter were both killed in a police standoff which ended after two and a half hours. LAPD were called to the scene when the man, identified as Jose Raul Lemos, stood near an intersection in South Los Angeles carrying the baby and appearing to be intoxicated. At one point, Lemos started shooting at the officers while "using the baby as a shield" and they fired back, hitting both the man and the girl. The child's mother said that Lemos suffered from depression and needed psychological help.

That's sad. I hate it for the police too, you know they didn't want too, but they had too if he was shooting at them. Very sad.

I can't imagine being one of the officers involved. It's bad enough having to take someone down. But, when an innocent (esp. a child) is caught in the middle, it's gotta be rough for those guys. I've been keeping all involved in prayer since hearing about it. So tragic!

what a shame.
This is going to get really ugly. People in Watts hate the police anyway and when you add to the fact this was a Hispanic baby, ohhhhhhhhh, boy, what a mess.

Or.... a bad guy was removed from society and a baby went to a better place.

from the sounds of things he might very well not have been a bad guy. Simply a person who was having a psychotic episode. A tragedy all ways around at any rate.
