A man dropped his fiancee's 8-month-old daughter out of a car as he fled police after being accused of domestic violence, authorities said.

The girl, strapped in a carseat, was unhurt but the man later was fatally injured in a crash.

Dana Bettin, 23, died Sunday, three days after the dramatic highway chase that ended when he crashed his fiancee's car into an unoccupied squad car.

At one point, he slowed down, opened the car door and dropped the baby in the car seat onto the highway, sending it tumbling toward the middle of the roadway.

"As the baby was flying toward me I noticed that she was crying very hard and looked scared," Wisconsin State Patrol Sgt. David Catalano said Tuesday on NBC's "Today" show, which aired video of the incident.

"Fortunately she was seat-belted into the child seat so that as it slid forward on the highway and then rolled over she escaped without any injuries," he said.

Sheriff's Sgt. Dan Pamenter told The Post-Crescent in Appleton that the man at first tried to put the baby out of the car on the shoulder, but the door car was in his way. He eventually pulled back into traffic and pushed the baby out as he was accelerating.

"His car was jerking back and forth," Pamenter said. "I didn't know what he was doing. He seemed to care for the baby."

"I was pretty certain he wasnt going to stop until he crashed," Pamenter said.

The chase continued at speeds up to 100 mph.

The pursuit ended on U.S. 41 when Bettin had a minor collision with a vehicle and then crashed into an unoccupied squad car. The car he was driving rolled over and he was pinned underneath. He died at a hospital in Green Bay.

Catalano spoke to the baby's mother on Monday and said the girl is going fine.

"Her mother is very devastated about everything right now," he said. "It was her fiance involved and she's very upset."

You should see the video footage of this. I can not believe the baby survived, let alone escaped with NO injuries what-so-ever. If he was really that concerned about the baby's well-being, he should have pulled the hell over and surrendered.

I agree wholeheartedly with you, Mimi. It's bad enough that adults do stupid things to each other but to possibly harm or kill a child in the process is "life without the possibility of parole" material. I guess he got the ultimate life sentence in the end. Glad the baby's okay.

my goodness, that just turns my stomach, even though luckily the baby was ok, just the thought of someone thinking its ok to do that because they cared bout the baby..BULL SHIT!! (excuse my language) but he didnt give a crap bout that baby or else he would have never fled with the baby in the car OR as Mimi said he would have pulled over and surrendered just so that he would know the baby was safe....gggrrrrr stupid people!!

:sowrong: I saw the footage of this on the news...taken from the squad's camera. All I have to say is thank God the child wasn't hurt.

If this man was trying to evade the cops for domestic violence, why the hell was the baby even in the car? Am I missing something? 😕

He probably thought he was going to take the baby away from the mother. When these jackasses turn to domestic violence to control and dominate their women, they usually go through the children too. He never (repeat, never) thought of anyone but himself. If he cared anything about his kid, he would've never (never) put that child in a car, drove 100mph evading police, and throw his flesh and blood out of a car window while still driving at high speed. He didn't do it out of compassion for his child-he did it so police would concentrate on the baby and provide him a getaway. He's one of those types who think "If I can't have her, nobody will". He's a selfish bottomless scumbag who didn't die painfully enough. I have no compassion for those kind at all!!!

He's where he belongs, if you ask me!! I believe there's a special place in hell for abusive people.

Oh, and just in case I didn't make myself clear:

I could care less what type of childhood he had
I could care less what type of mother she is
I could care less about his so-called intentions
And I don't feel sorry for him at all!

The only good news is that he won't be able to hurt that child or mother ever again!:sowrong: :sowrong:
