Why? I think this viewpoint is kind of ignorant. I mean ... for someone with a fetish of your own, you know how powerful that emotion is. A person can't help what turns them on. It's just the card that was dealt to them, to steal Myriads words.

While I think the fetish is justifiable, the action isn't. Doing or requesting anything sexual with a minor is wrong (although, I consider a 'minor' anyone under 16). Until you reach a certain age, you can't really make a mature or rational decision regarding your sexual health.

Bottom line: there is a huge difference between thought and action.

Oh, and...

Out of curiosity, what's the age of consent in the US? It's 16 over here...

The thing that inflames most people about this topic (myself included) is that children are largely defenseless against adults.
The need to protect the innocent and helpless is a part of what we would call "human decency".
I agree that it is very unlikely that a paedophile is likely (or capable) of changing, and something needs to be done to separate them from the rest of the community (especially children).
It is ILLEGAL don't forget to involve minors in ANY SHAPE OR FORM of sexual activity. I myself do feel totally sick when ever I hear of it happening. And do struggle to feel sympathy for anyone who gets caught engaging in that type of activity!!!

Anyway, being aroused by minors is legal - just as legal as being aroused by tickling. There is no law dictating how you feel, just how you act. If I were to act on my fantasies, they'd be just as illegal as pedohilic action.

As the uncle to a 13 year old, I respectfully disagree. While I realize once a girl reaches age 17 (esp. once she graduates HS) it can be seen as borderline (underage vs legal adult)......a 16 year old girl is and should always be seen as underage/ a minor.

Look at it this way: if my niece sleeps with a 21 yr old guy when she's a couple months shy of her 18th birthday........I (and her mom & dad) would see it much differently than if the same thing were to occur when she is 16.

I think a minor should be considered an adult once they past a certain test proving that they are capable of handling themselves as an adult.

Too many people my age (20) shouldn't be considered 'legal' just due to their maturity level and how they go about doing things.

Alright this kind of attitude pisses me off. Before I explain why, let me be clear: I'm not a pedophile, children do not turn me on in any context, and I don't support the child pornography industry.

This covers watching child porn as well. By doing that, you feed the industry. That is an action with real life ramifications, so that could be condemned. But the mere fact of finding it arousing? Not immoral.

Take me for example. My tastes are pretty fucking dark. I'm into nonconsentual, sexual, tickling and bondage. That's a stone's throw away from torture and rape. Have I, or will I ever, torture or rape anyone? No. Thus, I'm not a sick fuck who should die.

Thoughts cannot be immoral, only actions. Knee jerk reactions like the one I quoted aren't constructive in understanding problems like child porn.

I'm sorry but you cannot compare being sexualy excited by children with anything els. I know of a situation regarding a minor being sexualy assulted by someone they knew and they have done the right thing, they got the authorities involved and have cut all ties with this person! I am a homocidal bipolar. Means I get uncontrollable urges to hurt or kill. I have discussed this before on this forum. So, I am not bringing this up.

The uncontrollable urges are under control now, without medication. It took a few years and the help of a psychatrist that was better versed in the bipolar mindset than any of the morons I have met since. I take no medication, as the only ones that would be prescribed are all addictive. He worked with me and 4 other combat veterans on dealing with it. The 5 of us no longer let the emotions control us like that. I do have the feelings, but learned how to channel it.

If I, as someone that suffers from a physiological issue that causes psychological problems can get it under control with discipline and hard work, someone who has a mental problem that is not from a chemical balance can as well.

Pedophilia is more than illegal, it is something that is disturbing. It is not a fetish or any other sort of acceptable behavior. Caligula might have accepted it, but someone who doesn't want their young family member to be a victim of someone like that, do not.

They say that pedophilia cannot be cured. I have read it multiple times. That is why I say castration. xSamanthax, you have a very personal and somewhat unique POV on this because of this circumstance. The difference is simply that this family member of yours not only doesn't act on his impulses (or at least has done all he can think of to prevent a repeat occurance of prior actions) but wishes to not have these impulses. This person in your family deserves a great deal of credit compared to those who choose to act on their desires.

I don't think he is the type of pediophile we are refering to. His efforts to take control of his desires, no matter how "natural", are honerable and noteworthy.
