I'm not gonna lie, I know that I'm a 20 year old guy who claims to be a "Movie Geek" but I honestly haven't seen most of the James Bond movies. This is a travesty I'm sure but I've only recently seen a few (And I like a majority of the ones of seen.) So what are your thoughts; best bond movie, or best Bond, whatever you want to comment on.

Moonraker (1979) with Roger Moore

Lois Chiles played Holly Goodhead 🙂

GoldenEye and Casino Royal. Quantum of Solace was great too. The older ones are 50/50 for me, some of the being to cheesy for my taste. Licence to Kill isn't bad either, though many people dislike Timothy Dalton.

Goldfinger set the standard. After that movie EVERYONE was on the spy bandwagon in the 60's. TV series, movies, special and spoofs all tried to imitate 007 and his Aston Martin with lethal accessories.

My personal favorite is On Her Majesty's Secret Service. For those of us who grew up with Diana Rigg as Mrs. Peel in the Avengers TV series seeing her cast as the only girl James Bond marries was a treat. George Lazenby made a good 007 too. Unfortunately he was the first actor to be cast in the role after Sean Connery decided to call it quits.

Connery was phenomenal in the role. I will never forget the scene in Thunderball when Connery walks into the lobby of his hotel and asks the desk clerk if there are any messages. She says "No" and follows him with her eyes as he bounds up the stairs wearing a shirt and swim trunks. The camera stays on her as she sighs wishing she could get him into bed. That was the kind of thing that made the difference in the early films. He didn't chase women, Women chased him. Every woman wanted to meet James Bond. Every man wanted to BE James Bond.

The other thing that the early films had that has not been successfully copied is the James Bond fight. Connery would put a serious amount of energy into a fight scene. For years the train fight in From Russia With Love was talked about as being the best fight scene ever filmed. They are just now getting back to that with some of the fights I have seen Daniel Craig do.

If you can get past the 60's cars and old airplanes, then you would enjoy the early Sean Connery movies. Roger Moore was good too but I didn't care for all of the comedy. Timothy Dalton tried to capture the dark side of Bond, the serious assassin. It was good to see Bond get serious after the Moore comedies. Pierce Brosnan was born to play Bond. He was able to be tough and handled the comedy well. Daniel Craig as a younger Bond works well too. I am looking forward to his next film now that they are done with the "origin" story.

Any of them where it's Sean Connery is Bond. Hands down he's Bond and the others are just hoping they can come close. Pierce Brosman was the worst in my opinion. So those ones kinda sucked.

Based on what I have seen so far I would say that Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan are my favorite Bonds. Daniel Craig's James Bond movies are TERRIBLE! Quantum of Solace is the only time I've ever had to run out of the theater to throw up!

Why do you say that?

Craig plays a more realistic Bond, and Casino Royale seemed to be more in the spirit of the book than other Bond films. The technology and social characteristics were updated, but aside from that, Bond is generally written to be somewhat of a cold killer. It's the conflict of personality that Vesper's character brings to Bond that is supposed to make Bond multifaceted.

With Quantum of Solace, the plot wasn't really based on a Fleming book, but it seems to fit quite well with the context of Casino Royale.

It just seems odd that people blast Quantum. It's like how purists blasted Casino Royale and then later seemed to acknowledge that it's one of the better Bond films. Nostalgia seems to play a big part here in the distortion of perception.

There is truth in what you say. I'll say this much, first off maybe I phrased it wrong. I DID actually enjoy Casino Royale, I think its a good sit down with a bowl of popcorn action flick but it didn't fit my image of Bond. The books may say other wise and to fans of the Fleming novels I can understand your reasoning for maybe liking Casino. Quantum on the other hand is a different story. I didn't really like the way the CG was used in that movie (I'm not a CGI fan) and most of all I didn't like the editing. The choppy editing I actually found physically sickening. I honestly ran out the theater about to throw up because the cut up action scenes were so dragged out and choppy that it overwhelmed me to the point where I couldn't enjoy the movie.

On top of that I don't like the cold killer Bond. I like the way the older movies portrayed him and Daniel Craig just simply doesn't feel James Bond to me. I could see him being a PERFECT James Bond villain but I simply have a hard time seeing him as Bond himself. Granted I hold no malice towards Craig because I've seen him in other movies and I can say that as an actor I actually like him. I also like David Tennant (The actor who currently plays Doctor Who for the rest of this year) but I honestly wouldn't want to see him play James Bond.

I do like the aspect of adding "realism" into fictional characters (IE the Nolan Batman films) and I certainly wouldn't mind seeing a "Realist" James Bond but I simply didn't think it turned out well with Quantum (Casino actually hit it kind of close but no cigar.) While at the same time I LOVE cheesy stuff. I like movies and TV with outdated special effects, campy dialogue, etc. etc. As evidenced by the fact that I actually watch Doctor Who, Star Trek, and even movies Turkish Rambo (Which apparently oh so many of you guys outwardly despise.) So I like the old Bonds (That I've seen) better.

That's understandable. I hated Cloverfield for similar reasons regarding the editing.

It is true that Connery plays a more likable suave Bond in the first several films, but I guess because I didn't grow up with those movies, I look back on those films as being very kitschy.

Ah, I'm not a fan of camp. Admittedly, this leads to many arguments between me and Tarantino fans.

GOLDFINGER!

It was the first Bond movie that I seen after reading about the woman painted with gold on the cover of LIFE magazine. Sean Connery set the standard for playing James Bond. I have read all of the original stories written by Ian Fleming and I would think that Sean Connery was closest to the character in the books.

Ok, folks, Ive seen them all atleast twice! I love the James Bond series. My favorit Bond movie was "Live and let Die" . Filmed half in Hatti (actually the Bahamas) and half in 1970's New Orleans. Jane Seymore, who played Bond girl "solitair" was very hot in that movie.

My second favorit is Octopussy. Great movie.

I am a big Bond fan I have all the movies, but these are my faves:
Godlfinger - Connery
On Her Majesty's Secret Service - Lazenby
The Man with the Golden Gun - Moore
The Living Daylights - Dalton
Goldeneye - Brosnan
Casino Royale - Craig

As for my fave Bond, Brosnan, I guess its cuz I grew up with him, even though I was born in 87' & in the late 80's it was Dalton.

For me, it has always been From Russia With Love. It is the Bond movie that was closest to the source material and the novel itself was Ian Fleming's favorite. (It is also the last Bond movie that Fleming himself ever saw.)

really I thought he lived to c Goldfinger, Thunderball & You Only Live twice before he passed. Wow.

I believe Fleming died while Goldfinger was in production (August 12, 1964).

My favorite Bond is On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

wait.......I thought these bond movies were kinda like madlibs. Essentially the same, with a few key differences each time?

British spy? Check.
Hott girls? Check.
Evil plot? Check.
Cool Gadgets? Check.
Sex Sex and more Sex for bond? Check.

....................ooooooh, I see, its the things he says that are different, not the plot! Ok, now I get it.
