I'd like to add two songs to the list. By a faaaaaabulous San Diego local, Jenn Grinels. This girl will be famous. She writes, sings and plays guitar for her own stuff, and boooooooy does she have some pipes!! Look her up, I know of more than a few of you who have tastes she will fit perfectly.

like bigjim i absolutely hate todays pop music (might be somthing to do with being british 😉) so i dont really listen to any love songs, doesnt stop the songs i do listen to in helping me cheer up after a bad time

I wouldn't say that I hate today's pop music, but I'd rather listen to cats yowling outside my bedroom window at three in the morning than hear most of today's pop pap in the bright of day.

Listen to "Drown In My Own Tears" by a master musician like Ray Charles (R.I.P.) and you'll hear true emotion in his singing. You don't get anything but histrionics and noise from a lot of the 'Pop Tarts' out there today, except for someone like Norah Jones. I wish there were more like her out there today.

Break up songs... How about "Yesterday" by The Beatles? Talk about emotional... especially when that lone violin is playing that single note... here come those tears again.

Giggleygirl, you just helped me realize a big mistake I've been making. Yes, there are sub-par performers in the world of music today, but I've overlooked the fact that today's Country music still provides classy songwriting and amazing musicianship. That song you mentioned is a good example (I love the lyrics but I've yet to hear the song). I need to get it through my head that there's more to today's music than Britney Spears and her lookalikes, bland Boy Bands and Rap that is used as a means to brag and exploit women.

This would make a good breakup song for a woman... don't know the name of it or the artise, but the song was popular back in late 1994, early 1995... the lyrics went something like this:

"Don't want no iddy biddy teeny weeny tiny little short short man..."
