Can anyone help with this? Trouble logging in to a member site... Virus?

What exactly happens when you try to log in? Does it simply fail to take or does it seem to, then not?
In the second case you are having a cookie issue. Your new virus-ware might be blocking some types of cookies (Security set too high). Firewalls can do the same.

This is on the white page you get when you enter a URL incorrectly, but with this writing instead of the "this page is unavailable" stuff.

What second case? 😕 I'm only having the trouble with the one site, not two, and that site doesn't use cookies. I log into it with a name and password. I've also got my AV and FW software set so that I get asked if I want to allow cookies when someone trys to plant them on me.

Netscape and IE offer free downloads of thier browsers. There are a few minor ones also. Basically by trying another for the site you may find that the problem is browser specific.
For example I have three browsers that I use for surfing, Safari, IE, and Opera. There are some sites that each just suck on. Using the others covers the holes.

Thanks for all your help people. While you're at it, could one of you be so kind as to tell me why I was such a dickhead as to post a username and password in full public view?????? If it weren't for the sharp eyes of a friend of mine who spotted my cock-up, that website would have been sending the bloody Fraud Squad my way!
