Thanks for the post isabeau. I agree that cats are wonderful.

By the way, cats are highly intelligent. Many dog lovers dislike like them because they're smart, independent, and generally won't fetch or do things on command the way dogs will... but it's certainly not because they're stupid.

my cat does fetch sort of. if i throw a toy or a wadded up piece of paper at her, she runs after it plays with it and brings it back to my feet for me to throw again.

Cats are the coolest. They clean themselves, they shit in a little pan, very self-sufficient. Sure, they're a little self-important, but who cares! I want a dog (been wanting one for a while now) but good lord, I'll take a cat over a dog any day. 🙂

Cats kick all ass. Props to the pusses. :cat:

(though I do love dogs too....cats are just my pet of choice)

My cat is actually getting very close to learning how to open closed doors. She actually stretches out and tries to turn the knob! It's so cute! 🙂

I saw that on the news as well. That tommy is one smart kitty cat! :xpulcy: I wish my two cats we're that smart if something happend to me like that. Cats do rule......

My cat can open cupboard doors. He does it all the time to sleep in the linen closet. (His den.)

He can't work a door handle, but he's smart enough to know that's what opens a door - he just can't manipulate it correctly. (Damn the fate that decreed cats must do without opposable thumbs!)

He got into a "turf war" with another kitty we used to have and was temporarily denied use of the litter box. He taught himself to use the toilet. Upon occasion, he was able to work the flush handle, but he wasn't 100% on that. (Why bother to own a couple humans if they can't handle the small things for you?!)

If you call a dog, he comes. If you call a cat, he'll advise you to leave a message and he'll get back to you eventually. Maybe.

Rember Spuds McKenzie? My friend Darren (hot butcher at the grocery store I was checkout girl for) bought one of his puppies. He did the same thing. Darren had 911 on his speed dial and the neighbors called the store to say the cops were breaking in, because someone in the apt had dialed 911. How funny is that?!
XOXO

I never had any use for cats, in fact I hated them, until my wife and kids brought one home from the animal shelter. She approached me right off the bat and I held her. That damn cat stuck with me. I can't go anywhere. sit anywhere, or sleep anywhere without her wanting to lay on my chest and purrrrrr. Which I don't mind at all. I will say she is a very good and friendly cat and is very appreciative when she is taken care of. As far as the kids and wife when they yell or tease her she will wait till we leave and get the last item they had and hide it. She has never done that with me. Until I get my German Sheppard, that damn cat is the best. In fact she is laying right next to me now purring as I am writing this.

I am a cat person and always have been. I have just recently in the past couple years gotten two. The are brothers, soon to be three years old, and about 16 to 18 pounds each. They are surprisingly smart. They can stand and bat the door knob, and if there is something next to the door, one of them knows how to stand on it and open the door. They can open cabinet doors in the bathroom. One of them likes to play and shred the toliet paper. I say one of them, because I can never catch which one does it. Same with the trash can when it gets turned over because one of them doesn't like the food I get them. They seem to know when I am looking and when I am not. They seem to know that black is the color they shed best on, and pick that clothing to lay on. They are odd too. They seem to like to chew straws, stirafoam, and sunflower seeds. They know when I am reading, and to lay right on it. They know when the water is running in the kitchen that the water bowl is being refilled, and when it is running in the bathroom that they need to vacate the area or they might get wet. They are very affectionate, and meet me at the door when I come home. They are great companions and I look forward to many more years with them at my side.

my kittie is polydactyl meaning she has six claws on both her front paws. and four of those claws are webbed. she loves water. she sits on the sink while david is shaving waiting for him to turn the faucet to a small stream, and she plays and drinks from it. also she chews the mail grrrrrrrr when it comes thru the slot. cats are independent and only are found when they want to be found. they hide in plain site laughing at you trying to find them. chelsea is extremely smart, she will come running from anywhere in the house when we get ice from the door of the refrig. she likes to play ice hockey in the kitchen. and i will try to quietly eat a small container of a yogurt smoothie, with her upstairs sound asleep, and bang from nowhere here she is right beside me, sticking her nose in the container, purring in my ear, to wait til i finish so she can lick the container. she can also hook those paws under any door and open it.
