I thought that the remake was way better than the first

"Quit mumbling, I cant hear you" 😀

Must see!

must be a generational thing then......i thought gene wilder was far better in the original.

I thought the original was flawless, with the exception of the little orange men singing about Dippity Doo, and I couldn't be less interested in Tim Burton's latest crusade to pervert perfectly good cultural icons. (planet of the apes, Im looking in your direction 🙂)

I loved both of them. They are both very differnt though. I thought the new one was great. Plus I love Johnny Depp, lol I grew up always liking him. lol.

Both versions are good, but I loved this new version. The new movie actually followed the book much more than the original.

They both have their own good and funny qualities. Jonny deep played and awesome role as willie wonka, but I believe Gene wilder created willie wonka, thats what keeps him out alittle further then Deep. but they are both really good.

Johhny Deep had a bit too much of Blaine the Mono about him for my liking. It IS definately closer to the book than the original, but I just couldn't get on with it.

I took my kids to see this in hopes that it would be a fun flick as the first one was. We actually left the movie early, not just merely for the fact that it was creepy, but for some other reasons as well. They seemed to enjoy it but I thought Depp was creepy in it. I just didn't like it anywhere near as much as I liked the first one. Certainly won't be one I buy on DVD when it comes out unless my kids beg me too, which is certainly possible, lol.

I guess one should have expected the "darkness" from Tim Burton but I had heard that it wouldn't be like that. I have no idea how it ended but I just felt like reaching into the screen and smacking Depp throughout the whole movie. Maybe because I'm not a Depp fan, who knows.

We saw "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" yesterday. It was very well done,
however I never read the original book and wasn't aware that they delve into Willie Wonka's past. I almost didn't want to know more as Gene Wilder's adaptation was just enough.
There were some differences in the new movie, I did like the simpler approach to the original movie. But Johnny Depp did an outstanding job with the role(as usual) and the new "Oompa Loompa" songs were more fun.
But where was the "I Got A Golden Ticket" song??

Yeah, it was a a fun movie, but weird as heck. The original made me love Gene Wilder as an actor, so I'll always like his stylish portrayal better, but Depp's character seemed to make more sense and be a bit more flawed than Wilder's.
On the other hand, I didn't think the new Oompa-Loompa songs were anywhere near as fun as the ones in the first movie. I just couldn't bring myself to remember the songs after I left. I will admit that they looked less creepy though 🙂

Hmmmmm....which to pick?

I actually liked the old one better in some ways and the new one better in others. I like the original movie and character better for the mood and story. But, I couldn't help liking the new one better in ways too. I'm not sure I'd go buy the DVD when it's released. But, I'd definately watch it again when it comes on cable. Interesting job with the flashbacks, etc.

Don't ignore this based on planet of the apes. I think it would be best if we all just forgot about it. 😉
