I was born in a big city, and when I was old enough to move out, I moved to another big city. I've lived in the suburbs, and I've lived downtown. I'm a city boy, through and through.

It could just be romanticization or novelty, but every now and then I get these crazy urges to go find myself some countryside, maybe by a lake, and just live there. Then again, I am prone to serious bouts of escapism.

Anyone know what I'm talking about? Or maybe any country folks feel the same way towards the city?

I totally know what you're talking about. I've been born and lived all my life in a big city as well.
I love the countryside, going to nice quiet places for a vacation, but I couldn't imagine living anywhere else but in a big city.
Just a few years ago, I've moved from the city centre to the outer districts. I have a river, fields and woods within walking distance now, while its still only 20 min by car to the city centre. It's PERFECT that way.

i grew up in the deep woods, surrounded by no one and i've been trying to get back there ever since.

born and raised in NYC and hate it I love the country I wish I had the money to move there but the only place for work is in a big city at least what I do now. I was in South Dakota for a while and loved it there but came back to NYC for (guess what) a Woman I love. I keep asking myself why why why. I had it made out there as a cab driver. What can I say I rather be poor in a place I hate and in love than well off in a place I love all alone.

Born in the 'burbs, live in THE city, and I'm always most comfortable in urban areas.

I've lived in New York City my whole life so that DEFINITELY makes me want to relocate to the country.

I grew up in a small town about an hour away from San Antonio. Lived in LA and then in Philly at different points of my life. Now, I am back to small town living - this time in Wyoming. I can't say I hated living in the city - it was good for that time in my life. At the same time, I found it to be incredibly stressful to live in that environment. Too. Many. People.

I am very glad to be back in a rural area. My stress levels (and all the associated health issues that went with them) are much MUCH better.

I've lived in a village my entire life.

I couldn't see myself living in a big city with bricks all around me; I think I would scream.

Where I live I'm only about half hour by car from Cambridge and approx an hour and half from London by car, so that suits me fine.

I would like for the rest of my life to stay in a village or on the outskirts of a village with mountains and lakes, but, I'd need to have a lot of cash for that priviledge (especially if you wanted no neighbours and land).

Oh well we can dream :fingerscrossed:

I grew up in the suburbs, so that's what I tend to feel most comfortable in. The heart of Baltimore City is rather frustrating to navigate. My best friend used to live out in Southern PA, where country is essentially all you see. It's a nice contrast from what I'm used to.

i grew up in the suburds and love it i do not like the city much i lived there for a while i am more a country boy and no i dont like country music

Born in the city and hated every second of it. It was too cramped. I moved gradually farther and farther away until I was close to the middle of nowhere. It was great. Quiet, peaceful, no car alarms, no listening to other folks' arguments, phones, radios... just peace, quiet, fresh air...

Then I moved...

I'm back on the outskirts of a city...

and I'm hating every second of it.

I was born and raised in the suburbs of Cincinnati. I've lived in Indianapolis, West Lafayette (both in Indiana) and Lausanne, Switzerland. It was peaceful and quiet most places. I worked for a mixed animal practice in Indiana after I graduated from vet school - the thing I liked most was being able to see the stars. I still like being able to visit a big city and take advantage of some of the things it has to offer. But for the safety alone, I'd choose the burbs or the country.

Born and raised in inner city NY, Bed-Stuy to be specific; I loved it and miss it every day, BUT to shake up my life I went to the University of Vermont and fell in deep love with nature and all the green and the quiet of the woods and such. I love the balance we have now, here in Ohio; we're in the 'burbs and it's lovely and quiet, safe for our daughters and only a short drive to the nature trails and caves, but in 20 minutes I can be in Beautiful Downtown Columbus and feel like I'm back on Bleeker and MacDougall in the village :cool2:

Have lived in the country most of my life, wouldn't have it any other way, lived in downtown Louisville KY for about a year that is the extent of big city life for me. Live near a small town called Plain City, the name says it all. Columbus in only 15 minutes away but you could never tell by my surrounding area.

I'm mostly a City boy - I've lived in Melbourne, Coventry, Nottingham, Brighton, Newcastle...the list goes on.

Although, I lived with my cousins on a farm for about 3 months, and I often go hiking and climbing outside the city. I'm no stranger to the countryside.

Lived in extremely small towns/villages all my life.

Would prefer somewhere not four miles out of the city with expensive buses, ideally. However, at the same time I wouldn't exactly like to live right in the city centre... too crowded.

So really it's sort of inbetween, leaning towards city outskirts kind of thing. Can't beat a night out in the city centre (well, in the city I'm near you can, but that's because the nightlife is crap...) but either walking four miles drunk or getting a taxi is really too much hassle.

I've lived right outside the city for most of my life, and it's not terrible, but I do NOT love it, and I would HATE living IN the city. I also wouldn't want to live in the middle of nowhere. Small, "everybody-knows-your-business" towns with mom-and-pop stores instead of Walmarts and McDonalds are just fine with me 🙂

I grew up in what was then a small town near Kansas City.As a kid it was ok.When i got a little older i hated it.

In 1980 i moved to Houston and loved it.In 1981 i found a funky old duplex in Montrose, about a mile from downtown. It was great.Lots of cool bars, restaurants and street life. Then in 1983 i moved to a garage apartment in The Heights, about two miles north.Another great neighborhood with lots of Victorian era mansions in various states of renovation and lots of offbeat little stores.

When i moved to Austin in 1987 i found a place in a semi rural environment not far from town.Quiet, but convenient when i wanted to go into town.

The country is nice, but i don't want to be too far from the city.I lived with my late brother for three years out in the middle of nowhere, and just about lost my mind.

After spending all week downtown, walking the Magnificent Mile with the fam, I hate it. I hate all the people, who all seem to be ignorant tourists that like to gather in impenetrable gangs in front of doorways or blocking crossways and whathaveyou.

I could use a week in the damn country.

That said, I love Chicago. Not necessarily the touristy parts because they are just fuckin annoying, but Chicago is a city of little neighborhoods, as they say, and I like going from Old Town to Greek Town to Andersonville to Lakeview and seeing all kinds of different stuff. Chicago is pretty laid back, save for Michigan Avenue seething with plastic surgery victims and their dying, rich husbands.

Country through and through. I was born living in the country, parents moved us all to live in a house in the woods, and now that I'm on my own I live in the city. Too much noise, lights are on all the time, I always hear neighbors business, I hate the traffic, and I hate the crime that goes with living in a city. I need to go back to the country! :'(

I grew up on a lake out in the Northern Minnesota woods. I'll always have a little country in me. 🙂
