I'm not sure if anyone has posted anything about this movie, but I just saw it and thought I'd share.

It's a simple plot, enveloped by touching extensions.

Nicole Kidman was just wonderful in this movie. As a southerner, I'm usually appalled at what passes for a southern accent in movies. I've got to say though....she sounds like me in this one. Not a bad job for an Aussie! She's a class A actress and this was no exception.

Jude Law...one word aside from a good job in this movie. YUM! 😉hehe

Renne Zellweger. This is the first movie i've ever liked her in. And boy did I really like her!

All in all...good movie. It touches love, power, racism, war, lonliness, human will.....among other topics. Good. Good. Good. I recommend this one.

joby -

i agree that renee was great. in fact, deserving of a nomination in the least. jude law isn't quite as yummy for me.

my only complaint is that after the movie ended i was thinking: great screenplay; cinematography; etc. but i didn't need to hear that sad story be told.

maybe it was just the mood i was in at the time - i wanted happiness.

Awwwww

But baron...don't you see? It wasn't a sad story.

It was a story of innocent Love that could withstand the turmoil, but with perseverence, shared the notion that parts of us remain after we're gone. Not to mention a few other tangental ideas.

Maybe that was what I needed right now, so that's what I saw in it.

Jo

i get you. and your are right on with that perception. but wouldn't it have been nice if all those innocent people of the town weren't killed by the raving lunatic mayor. and if mr. humphrey rode on home with nicole?

hey, i can't even watch old yeller. so maybe i should keep seeing "its a wonderful life". i'm so pathetic!

Hey JoBelle & Baron!
We went and saw it on Friday. Finally came out here. 🙄
But as you suggest, it was definitely worth the wait!! I'm totally with you, Jo, Major yums 😀 And i agree about the whole Southern Accent thing. Happens a lot with accents i think. But they did a good job of it to be sure. Hek, Even a Canuck like Donald Sutherland sounded good.

I also think the ending worked. To have had everything end happily ever after would have been as unsatisfying as the eighth double chocolate parfait in a row! 😱
Okay, uhm, strike that; poor analogy.😀

But you get the idea. Just too sweet. It worked better that true love did conquer but winning did not come without its price. That just seems to touch a deeper chord with me at least.

And, if i do say so myself, i did manage to maintain that view despite the tickle-persuasion of a certain someone. 😀

Anyway, i think the cold hand of death had to touch the heroine or it would not have been consistent with the overall backdrop of the war story.

I don't know; i'm sure there are many ways to look at it. And Baron, i very much appreciate your love of happy endings. They make me cry just as much as this one did. :sadcry:

So I guess i'm with you too. 😉
Great movie either way!

Many blessings to you both!

Quite possibly the most depressing bloody movie I've ever seen! :sadcry:

I'm sure it was an artisitc triumph, but when I go to see a movie I like to have an experience that ISN'T as depressing as being forced to listen to eighteen straight hours of C&W music.

Sheesh!

😕

It wasn't supposed to be some romance and flowers movie. It was a WAR movie!!! It was about war and the human results of it. Just because it was centered around a couple of characters and their emotions, doesn't mean it was supposed to leave you feeling giddy inside.

I still found it to be inspiring, and poignant! Not to mention, deeply honest.

Oh it was definately all those Joby! I never said it wasn't an excellent film, not to mention realistic. I just don't like films where absoloutely fuck all that's happy occurs. 😀 I'm a total child when it comes to watching films. I like a happy ending and everything. 😉

It did have happy moments. I'da thought bein' a Brit, you'd have thought it was nearly a laugh riot! (Stiff upper lip and all that pish posh)

LOL Nah, it was too realistic for me. I was kicking walls all the way out of the cinema because the hero didn't survive.

Some might say that SHE was the hero.

😉
Jo

Well without wishing to conform to a sexist, oratal stereotype, I'd have called her the heroine.

She was the central character, let's say that much. 🙂
