Computer Question.. About My Home Computer

As everyone knows, I've been in Denville, NJ since June 20th.

My home computer has been turned off since I left Lancaster on that day. I felt compelled to turn it off, because of the frequent thunderstorms in Lancaster in the summer. I had thought I was going home the weekend of July 4th, but, on the advice of my mom's doctors, that didnt happen.

I had my computer off for eleven days during the first leg of this marathon in June, and all was fine when I turned it on upon my return home on the weekend of June 18th. I'm not sure now if I'm going home Saturday, Monday, or.. if God Forbid my mom has to be hospitalized again, longer than that.

By that point, my computer will have been off for six weeks. The computer is nine years old.

I know that six weeks is an eternity for a computer to be off. When I go to turn it on this weekend, next week, or whenever, would it be realistic for me to expect problems turning it on and rebooting it, where it may crash, and not work at all, or should it just turn on, and work like normal after warming up?

I dont know if any forum members have ever had their computers turned off for that long, but, as everyone knows, I have an unusual situation with my mom being treated up here, and having to stay so far away from home, for so long.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Mitch

i think it should be fine it should be just the way u left it

I imagine the worst problem you might have is dust. Maybe take a compressed air can and spray out the inside.

It should be fine. When a computer is off it takes a lot too damage it.

Like Tropic said; dust. That's really the only consequence of a computer being inactive for long periods of time. Just make sure to undustify the inside thoroughly.

It shouldn't be a problem, if anything as others have said it will have a bit of dust on it but taking a can of air spry and maybe a rag will do the trick.

Thanks for the replies, everyone.

The only thing I've ever really done is to open the undercasing, and dust off the little vents in it. God only knows how much dust accumulated in it after six weeks. As I've posted before, my apartment has a lot of wasps get in. I'm wondering if I will find a wasp in the computer, lol.

Seriously, thanks for the feedback. It helps.

Actually, if there are any holes in your computer large enough for a wasp to fit in... I would seriously consider checking for that. Those little bastards will build their nests anywhere.

Wasps? really, hmmm yes you might want to carefuly check your computer. Also if your having such a problem maybe call pest control to get rid of the wasps.

I'd give it a minute after booting up to install any system updates you may have missed. Other than that, it's perfectly fine.

Thanks, guys.

Ive called building management about the wasps. They've sprayed, but.. my mom also cant have bug spray in the apartment, due to her lung conditions, so when I'm home, I kill them one at a time.

Last time, after 11 days, I had six wasps to kill in a weekend. This time, God knows. She says we are going home Monday, but right now I have no reason to believe her. She's not doing well, and just seems to want to lie in the hotel. We might not go home for another month.

Thanks again for the feedback.

The beauty of solid state technology. Minimal moving parts to go bad.

There are biological exterminating agents like Clove Oil that dissapate in a day. I saw it on the "Billy The Exterminator" series. You might see if they can use something like that.

Thanks, kurch. I have no idea what things will look like when I get home. I'll let you know when I get there.
