I don't understand why some bands/singers decide to do a cover tune. Almost all of them blow anyway. I mean, tribute albums are one thing, but full-out covers of already great songs are pointless.
All these artists do is butcher them. I like Guns n' Roses, but I hated their version of "Knockin' on Heaven's Door."
However, there are some groups/artists out there that re-create a song that-I feel- is on par with, if not better, than the original.
Off the top of my head, the two cover tunes I have heard and liked are:
"Hey now" by Six Pence None the Richer. Until I heard this version, I never paied(or payed. My spelling blows pina coladas) the 80's original any mind. I also like the lead singer's whispy voice.
There is a small Canadian band who's name was never revealed to me when I heard this song on CBC radio yesterday. They covered that "Brick in the Wall" song by Pink Floyd. It was done in an Indie-Acoustic fashion. It sounded great!
Has anybody else found a cover tune that dosen't suck?

Also, the Indigo Girls' version of Romeo and Juliet is wonderful.
