Did anyone else catch this guy on Leno the other night?
He's this adorably scruffy, soulful musician who does the "Can't take my eyes off of you" tune from the new Julia Roberts' "Closer."

I laughed when the camera first panned to him. I didn't know his name and sneered at the telelvision set, "So, who's the James Taylor wanna-be?" Boy did he shut me up when he opened his mouth and did an unplugged rendition of the song. More than anything else, I was struck by how much you could tell he was REALLY feeling the song, I had the chills...

Anyway, this is my prediction for the next "big thing" musically, I hope he hits it big, he is EXTREMELY talented!

I'm kinda picky about that. If he REMINDS you of James Taylor, but he's really trying to create his own style, that's one thing. However...

There was some singer a few years back named Curtis Stigers. He was trying to BE Ray Charles. That turned me off.

Oh ya, I totally get that Knox. I posted awhile back about a band called "A Perfect Circle" who'd re-recorded John Lennon's "Imagine." I'm a huge Lennon fan and LOATHE 99% of all remakes, musical, movies, whatever. But this was different. The band obviously didn't think they could be John Lennon at all. They slowed it down, made it dark and haunting, nothing at all like the hopeful-sounding original...I rather liked it, BECAUSE it was so different.

At the risk of hijacking your thread, do you mind if I turn you on to a singer/songwriter who I've just recently become acquainted with... I bought his CD, I mean. His name is Ron Sexsmith and he's from Canada. His music is very 70s oriented; Paul McCartney is one of his biggest fans.

Click on this site, then 'music'. You'll be shown a list of songs... click on 'Quicktime' or 'Windows' near the song "Whatever It Takes" and you'll see and hear this video. The video hesitates once in awhile, but it resumes immediately...
