Atlanta Braves starting pitcher, Sean Newcomb, had a no hitter going through 8 and 2/3 innings on Sunday against the Dodgers, arguably the most potent offense in The NL. With just a strike to go from a no no, freaking Chris Taylor***, the Dodger SS ruined it!!!

The Braves ultimately won 4-1 but L.A took three out of four against The Braves who are surprisingly in the running for either a Wild Card spot, or even a divisional title. If they can only throw one or two hitters for the rest of the season, I like their odds 😉

*** This post is not meant to be in anyway disparaging to Chris Taylor, The Dodger organization, it's fans or the game of Major League Baseball. I figured some good natured ribbing between teams would be fun. If anyone took offense then please accept my humble apology.

He knows how the Tigers' Armando Gallerega and Dave Stieb of the Blue Jays feels. Both of them lost no hitters after retiring 26 batters. If I remember correctly, Stieb came that close twice only to see it disappear. Both times he was in the 9th with two outs and two strikes on the batter before losing them both.:Grrr:

Galleraga's perfect game was nixed due to a bad call

To the umpire's credit, he owned the mistake and apologized. I always thought this was a cool moment

Tough shit.
The pitcher is obliged to get the 27th out to record a no-hitter.
Should Chris Taylor have struck out on purpose? Surely not.

Also....thank you for making a thoughtful and intelligent comment. Your input is much appreciated

Did I say he should have struck out on purpose? Surely not

Then you don't have anything about which you should be whining. Chris Taylor did exactly what he was supposed to do, got on base to prolong the inning and preserve the Dodgers' chance to make a 9th inning comeback.

Yikes, looks like I might have accidentally struck a nerve. I was just trying to have some fun with the situation while lightly poking fun at a rival (or maybe former rival? They're not divisional foes anymore.) If my post was upsetting to you then I apologize, that certainly wasn't my intent

Apology accepted.
You should realize that I follow the great theologian, Tommy Lasorda, who often spoke of The Big Dodger in the Sky.

Yes, Sodahead. I should have mentioned that Galleraga's was due to an umpire's bad call.

I don't know who I felt worse for, Galleraga or Jim Joyce, the umpire. Yes that was truly a cool moment when Joyce went on air the next day and said it was his fault. AND Galleraga deserves props for calling a mistake a mistake and leaving it at that.

You're exactly right. That could have gotten nasty but everyone was pretty cool. I know official reviews can be a controversial topic but in that instance, they would have saved the day!
