Did Anyone Hear About The "Donnie Darko" Sequel Coming Up?

It's going to be called "S. Darko" and is set for a '09 release. Nobody from "Donnie Darko" is attached to this one; not director Richard Kelly or Jake Gyllenhaal. The only person coming back is Donnie's younger sister Samantha Darko, Daveigh Chase, who was known for her "What's a fuckass?" line.

The plot goes like The story picks up seven years after the first film when little sister Samantha Darko and her best friend Corey are now 18 and on a roadtrip to Los Angeles when they are plagued by bizarre visions.

I probably will go and see it when it is released but now I don't know if I like this. What do you think?

Parallel universes and tangents and all that fun stuff, man.

In a nutshell, because the jet engine didn't land on Donnie Darko, every event that took place never really happened, its called a 'tangent'. To make things right, he had to allow the jet engine to fall on himself.

If anything it is one to wait for on video and not waste the price of admission....

If people avoided this type of crap and the thousands of remakes of remade remakes then maybe Hollywood would get off there asses and create new stuff...

I think a movie like Donnie Darko stands on it's own. It didn't, and still doesn't, NEED anything added.

So this will be a movie that tries to ride the coattails of an odd but thought provoking movie, rather than stand on it's own two feet.

That movie was more about questions than answers. I am not sure that it is meant to be "understood", in a traditional sense.

I 110% completely agree with you, Venray. But you know what? Hollywood won't create new stuff because the big studio bosses puffing cigars don't want to risk paying a producer $100mill to make something original that could possibly flop at the box office. Churning out the same shit over and over is safer and promises big bucks at the box office.

I put Donnie Darko in my son's Easter Basket a few years ago (don't worry, he was 14 at the time). Trippy movie! The sequel sounds pretty lame though.
