QUOTE:

phant0m: When a clear chain of logical relation is not established, slippery slope goes from an argument to a fallacy. They are only going to have to start banning others left and right if suddenly a lot more members start acting like ignorant fuckwits.
DontAskJusTckle: Your argument assumes that there is a set-in-stone definition of "ignorant fuckwit." To you it seems to mean somebody that expresses derision toward certain people groups. I would be more likely to use the term to describe somebody who criticizes a forum admin for insufficient censorship and banning. And I'm sure if you asked twenty different people, you'd get twenty different definitions. So the "banning left and right" would be to accommodate all the different definitions.
phant0m: Fair enough. Reread my posts and replace the term ignorant fuckwit with the phrase "somebody that expresses derision toward certain groups of people." Since you just admitted that you knew exactly what I meant, it shouldn't be too hard to do.

If you look at the above conversation, I never claimed to know exactly what you meant. On the contrary, I gave what to me SEEMED to be your definition, based on the context in which the term was used. But nonetheless, here goes...
"The admins are shit when it comes to banning those who express
derision toward certain people groups."
"They are only going to have to start banning others left and right if
suddenly a lot more members start acting like somebody who expresses
derision toward certain people groups."
If you had a point in asking me to do this, feel free to make it.

QUOTE:

phant0m: I haven't seen a high volume of hate speech on the same level as the_musician's, so if you could please cite some legit posts that would be deleted unnecessarily, I will reconsider your viewpoint.
DontAskJusTckle: You made reference to other to other TMF members as trolls, ignorant fucks and ignorant fuckwits.
phant0m: Actually, I clearly stated that very few people like that ever come to TMF, and the only reason they stick around is because they don't get banned fast enough. I then said that a lot more
members would have to become ignorant fuckwits for a significant amount of bannings to occur. This implies that I don't believe a lot of members are using hateful speech and that most members are not ignorant fuckwits. Is that too complicated for you?

Hey, you asked me for examples so I gave you examples. Now please honor your agreement to reconsider my viewpoint.
QUOTE:

DontAskJusTckle: You made reference to other to other TMF members as trolls, ignorant fucks and ignorant fuckwits. That's at least as hateful and disparaging as "************," and in my opinion a lot more so.
phant0m: Yeah, I'm sure that's what you believe.

I wouldn't have said so if I didn't. I invite you to give me a reason to believe otherwise as soon as you can think of one.
QUOTE:

phant0m: I'm not sure if you were aware of The_musician's first post before it was edited, but it certainly contained hateful speech. It did not contain "hateful speech," as in this-speech-is-open-to-interpretation, it had several unnecessary derogatory slurs. If every post that was written that way resulted in a ban we would not have a double edged sword, but fair and consistent enforcement of the rules.
DontAskJusTckle: We'd also be minus the pleasure of your participation due to your repeated use of the derogatory slur "ignorant fuckwits." And that is a perfect example of the double edged sword of which I speak.
phant0m: If the admins want to ban me for referring to people who post homophobic or racist content as ignorant fuckwits, then that is there call. I'll report my own post and see what happens.

Wow, that's a change in attitude. When it's somebody else posting hateful slurs, you're all indignant that the mods haven't taken action. When you do it and it's your ass on the line, suddenly you're content to just "see what happens."
QUOTE:

phant0m: Allowing homophobic or racist speech on a forum where people are supposed to be able to go to be free from judgement is just plain sad.
DontAskJusTckle: How can anybody be free from judgment when all they have to do to earn it from you is to use unapproved terminology?
"Musician, since you've committed the heinous act of using a hateful and disparaging slur, I'm going to respond by labeling you with a hateful and disparaging slur."
Can't you see this glaring double standard?
phant0m: So you're telling me it's wrong to call someone who uses hateful speech an asshole.

More specifically, I'm telling you that it's a grossly hypocritical double standard.
QUOTE:

phant0m: Can I call someone who commits hate crimes an asshole?

Sure you can. Just as I can call an asshole whoever it was that decided that beating the shit out of somebody for their wallet is not as bad as beating the shit out of them for being gay. A crime is a crime. The reason for it should not matter.
QUOTE:

phant0m: Can I call someone who commits murder an asshole?

Sure you can. But if you murder the murderer for murdering, then that hypocritical double standard applies.
QUOTE:

phant0m: The_musician posted hateful comments about people who have made a certain lifestyle choice and have nothing to do with him. I posted a hateful comment about people who post hateful comments. Those are dissimilar situations and therefore there is no double standard.

If he's an asshole for using hate speech, this implies that you feel anybody using hate speech qualifies as an asshole. But you don't seem to feel that this policy applies to you. Do you have some special dispensation? Diplomatic immunity, perhaps?
