The very fall of the hippie movement had everything to do with a repression of negative vibes to satisfy a counter culture movement during a time where conflict was deemed far too vile.
Healthy, argumentative discourse is a very good thing, and for the most part, there has to be a trust in the base of people that doing such a thing is actually worth while. We have so many active posters from different backgrounds that it is impossible we can all get along. Sometimes it comes to blows and it looks horrible, but I honestly believe it is only in rare instances where these things are actually as horrible as they appear to be.
You can't have a vibrant, constructive community without those negative vibes. I think that what has happened recently is given far too much headway because there has been a lot of really nasty blows. But aside from babyshambles, I honestly don't see how any of it has really crossed the line to where it ruins this forum.
I'll also say that if there were no arguments, if there were not folks saying their lines and trying to put themselves over, this place would be extremely boring. Perhaps the biggest asset TMF has is the fact that there seems to be something exciting or odd going down at any one moment.
It isn't about ridiculing or any of that. Again, what good is a discussion if your opinions are not put to the test? If your opinions cannot survive the fires and rigors of defense, how can someone ACTUALLY maintain them?
