Here's the 411 for anyone who hasn't heard the buzz...

The show's star, executive producer, writer and creator is comedian Denis Leary, whose inspiration for the show was his favorite cousin, a firefighter who died in the line of duty in a Worcester, Mass fire in 1999.

The buzz is that Leary, famous for his sarcastic wit, isn't turning mushy for the show, in case anyone was worried, the character he plays is flawed and real. The stories are based on real life. Leary was so adamant that the show remain true that he hired actor Jack McGee to play his boss, Chief Reilly. (McGee was a bronx firefighter for 10 years and was as dedicated as Leary to maintaining reality for the series.) I hope it'll be as good as they're saying...

XOXO

I might check it out, but only because you recommended it.

day ? time ? channel ?

Aren't you a sweetie! OK--it runs tonite 10 pm on FX...

XOXO

I'll ask my Tivo thingie to do a search.. it'll find it. Thanks !!

i would of watched it if i hadnt of worked tonite..i really wanted to see it..i want to become a firefighter or police officer. im just too dangerous for them jobs...im the crazy guy who'd go into a shoot out alone. LOL. i loved when the OCC made the firebike..it was just amazing..one of the best bikes ive ever seen. what a way to show respect to those who died..it was touching..they could of built any bike..instead, they built a rolling memorial!

~FDNY~ "343"..remember

Navel~FX tends to rerun things so don't give up hope.

OK gang, for those of you who watched, what did ya think?

I thought it was as good as I predicted. I loved how well developed the characters were, and appreciated Leary's performance--I thought he was funny, profane (as he usually is) and a little bit tragic.

I've had a couple boyfriends who were firemen and the excessive gambling thing is dead on...
I forgot to give a shameless plug in my initial post so here goes...Leary has created his own fund, learyfirefighters.org., dedicated to raising money for firefighters equipment (for those who don't know, the cost of this stuff is HUGE...)
Can't wait for next week's episode!

XOXO

Four Stars!

GREAT SHOW! As you said, Steph, I can't wait to see the next episode. Leary is an exceptionally talented guy, and here he's crafted a great show. I found myself easily taken into the lives of these characters, and found myself wanting to see more.
I'm especially happy that this show is on FX...one of the few stations that takes a gamble on great shows like "The Shield", "Nip/Tuck", and now "Rescue Me."

Can't wait to see what happens to that jackass that's dating his ex-wife...taking Tommy's lighter, now THAT'S just cold.

Hi Babe~
Glad you liked it too. You might find it interesting to know that although the show was considered so good, Leary, who had his pick of networks, actually chose FX for that exact reason...He wanted the freedom to be able to make an "adult drama" in every sense, yet still accessible to people who don't have pay cable channels like HBO.

And OMG...Nip/Tuck--I am ADDICTED!! Did you buy first season on DVD yet?? Sheer perfection, every episode, every character...Is it possible to be in love with a TV show? (She giggles...)

XOXO

Nip/Tuck had me from the very first episode. Unfortunately, i wasn't able to catch all the episodes but, thanks to advent of dvds, I can watch the whole thing uncut!!! WOO HOO!

FX is quickly becoming my favorite channel.

The Sean Man

Me too! My fave so far was the season finale--what's yours?

XOXO

Mmmm, that's a tough one. I didn't catch the season finale, so I don't know what came of the whole 'plastic surgery/drug smuggling' thing.

So far, I really enjoyed the episode from a couple weeks ago with the older woman who was addicted to surgery. Her daughter had cancer, and the mother ended up accidentally dying. A pretty emotional episode.

On a different note, ANY episode with Kelly Carlson....grrrrr baby:devil:

The Sean Man

Oh ya, the cancer one was very good.

Do I know Kelly Carlson?

Oh you HAVE to see the finale--hint: do NOT miss the last 5 mins. It's one of the most clever endings I've ever seen!

XOXO

Kelly Carlson is the little blond hottie/coke fiend/and now porn actress that Julian was trying to woo on his side for the custody hearing. Or, in her most memorable moment, using restraints and a knife on Julian.

The Sean Man

Hmm, it our house she's known as Butterface--not that she's ugly, she just looks um, over the hill, which is I guess what they wanted. Great body though.

And do NOT even get me started on Dr. Christian-- I could definitely get into some serious trouble if he were MY doctor...

XOXO

I love, though, how he's been trying to straighten up his act lately. Matt really busted his chops after Julian got him out of jail for jerking off outside his life counselor's window.

The Sean Man

Holy crap! I must have missed that one--1st season or second??

XOXO

ive never seen dennis leary play a real character, im so used to him as a stand-up comic, so this should be interesting...

This season, last week's episode to be precise.

OMG--I think I fell asleep

(I get up at 4:30 a.m.!)

Clair~I think you'll be impressed by Leary's performance. I found him absolutely believeable in this role, in part probably because it's a cause he's so devoted to.

He did play a semi-serious part in a Kevin Spacey dark comedy a few years back. And he played a romantic lead in a film with Sandra Bullock a little more recently, but I didn't see that one.

XOXO

That was "The Ref". GREAT movie! Only Leary could go toe to toe onscreen with Judy Davis and Kevin Spacey.

The Sean Man

Good call my dear--GREAT film too. Thanx for refreshing my lousy memory 😛 😛

XOXO

Talk about a double feature. Taped this week's Nip/Tuck AND Rescue Me. A martini may in order here......😀

The Sean Man

LOL--shaken, not stirred Mr. Bond 😛 (Nice twist at the end of Nip/Tuck)
Don't forget that last nite's Rescue Me was last week's episode--new one airs tonite!

XOXO

A light spritz of Martini and Rossi vermouth in the glass. Add chilled, shaken Grey Goose Vodka, and an olive. Ahhhhhh😀
