In an odd situation, I explained it to my sister. She'd found some sadism-related porn (ick!), and thought it might belong to me. I'd known about its presence for years, as it belonged to my father. I didn't say anything about it, because in my home, the knowledge that other people knew what he had would have... fractured the family. My mother is very conservative.
In any event, I explained to my sister (with whom I am very close) my tickling fetish, and my evaluation of fetishes not being a matter of choice. (I remember getting an erection in Kindergarten every time I read a Sesame Street book that featured a scene with Grover being held down by mechanical hands and being tickled. I didn't know what an erection was, or why it happened -- I just knew I liked that book.) It was also because of my evaluation of it as being something largely beyond one's conscious control that I couldn't condemn or chastise my father's leanings, nor could I really be "ashamed" of my own. It's just the way I am.
I don't explain it explicitly to girls or girlfriends, but they "catch on" soon enough, as I frequently engage in tickle-play with receptive female friends to whom I'm attracted. There's no big, "I have a secret" moment, because by the time I'd get to it, it would be essentially old news.

Only my wife really knows. I think others suspect from my behavior or things they've seen. So long as they don't embarrass me in public, I'm fine with it. B
Being able to tell my wife about it even though she doesn't fully understand it, is a real relief. It is hard I know, but being able to be honest about it with non-ticklephiles takes a weight off your shoulders and opens for tickle opportunity I think...

As for me, I used to dread anybody finding out about my obsession with tickling, until I saw some of the other fetishes out there. Then I realized tickling was pretty benign in comparison. I don't announce it at parties or anything, but if asked, I'll simply say, "Yeah, I dig being tickled."

My wives know about it, and my father knows that I'm kinky but not specifically how. My sister-in-law is kinky herself, and while she isn't aware of tickling in particular she knows that I'm involved in BDSM in general. I use to be really afraid to tell anybody about it for so long but actually most people I hang out with are pretty open about this type of stuff. Not that I go around announcing it but I've told a couple of my girlfriends and a few of my close girl friends and none of them really think it's that weird, in fact some of my girlfriends have really grown to like the idea, so you shouldn't be afraid to mention it to your signficant other. It makes the relationship that much better. I know it sounds corny but if your significant other likes/loves you they will be happy to do whatever makes you the happiest. And in comparrison to so many other things out there that turn people on, fetishes, kinks, etc. Tickling is no big deal at all.

There was a time when I kept it a very well-guarded secret from everybody. Now, I've told a few friends. It's mainly women I tell, for some reason. I haven't had anybody freak out. One said it was "so cool," one found it adorable, and one was so openly kinky herself that it was like telling her I like Chinese food.
