Dragon's Lair missing scene

This one was an excellent idea/request from Tomato Dragon (about two years back), and it befits one of his inspirations, the work of animator Don Bluth.

Surely people remember 'Dragon's Lair' in the arcades, right? Controlling Dirk the Daring amidst death traps to rescue the fair Princess Daphne from Singe the Dragon while watching wondeful Bluth animation the whole way. ^^

TD's request was a bit of 'peril' for poor Daphne while she was waiting to be rescued. Tied up by one of those huge green sucker-tentacles early in the game with a pair of those purple Goons administering 'torture' in a way befitting Daphne's...uh...outfit.

Let's just say she'll be counting the seconds (and crying in laughter?) between when the goofy Goons removed her open-toed heels and the moment when Dirk will rescue her...

...better hope he doesn't have to continue the game too many times, Princess. 😉

Obviously, I can't draw as good as the Bluth style (nor as good as Tomato Dragon himself either) but I certainly hope this was a worthy humorous tribute to both.

Oh yes, I remember this game well! Couldn't play it worth a darn (and if I'd properly appreciated the torturous activities going on in the dungeon, I might have rejoiced in my crummy scores!) A really fun scenario! In this case, I favor the clean line drawing to your shaded version (which is what I usually prefer), as it more closely resembles the cartoon frames of the original. Both are quite good, though.

Heh, yeah, I can't forget how many times I tried the original game way back (and played badly till I got the hang of it). I'm starting to hate my own art, so can't decide whether the linear versions or the shaded versions display the work better. Shading sometimes makes it more detailed/'alive', I guess...but linear = cleaner.

Like everyone else I sucked at the game - but it is certainly good fodder for a tickling pic.

I do remember the game, and the long lines of people waiting to play it overflowing out the arcade doorway. Most people including yours truly could only get a few minutes into the game, but I did chance to witness one player who managed to take it all the way to Dirk slaying the dragon and rescuing his maiden fair! Now that was a trip!.

I found a CD-ROM version of Dragon's Lair at a garage sale. Wonder how it'll stack up against the arcade version? It'll never have that hi-tech aura which the game had back in those days of 8 Mhz processors, 1200-baud dialup modems and 10 megabyte hard drives!
