Do you own one? Do you like it? I can't see myself ever buying one. I want to hold a real book in my hands for serious reading and while some of them have up to 6 inch screens (if there are larger ones I'm not aware of them) and that's just too small for me. I have a 21 inch monitor but if I try reading an online article or story more then three or four pages long I have a hard time sticking with it.

I do have one, and yes I do like it. While nothing beats holding an actual book as this bookworm will tell you, I love having the option of dozens of books all at my disposal.

I have one too, and I like it (also love real books). It's not the same as reading off a screen as it isn't backlit. And if you are one to buy new books, the books are a LOT cheaper...

Thanks for your input ladies. I think I'll stick with the real things. I'm a bit of a Luddite in some ways. 😉

I have a Nook and I like it a lot. True, it's not the same as a real book, but you can put a dozen new books in it to take with you on a trip and it weights just the same as before. 😛

I've never been on a trip that required more then one or possibly two books depending on the length of said books. I'm not in the habit of taking a library of books when I travel. I would never get around to reading them anyway. And one or two books take up little space, and don't weight that much. To me, the tradeoff is worth it. 🙂

Huge disservice to next generations if books are largely replaced by electronics

^That. There might be some advantages with backlit screens? Or changing the font size, enlarging, with some devices, and it's maybe easier to keep copies of books that would go out of print, so it's useful for storage overall,

but I'd want to keep the printed copies available too.

I don't see why we shouldn't always have both,
and I'll bet the real thing puts a lot less strain on the eyes  :ermm:

The physical book is more comfortable IMHO. Better for kids too, more relaxing, especially with larger, wider books with larger pictures, more fun to read, especially for the younger kids but also for the older ones.

They like to play computer games and interact with online stories but too much of that isn't good either, for many reasons, and definitely not when they're supposed to go to sleep, I don't think. Like for many adults 😛

Either way we need to recycle paper a helluva lot better.

I go through one or one-and-a-half books just waiting at the airport and then during the plane flight for my trips to L.A. 😛

Love my Kindle, though it seems to have an allergy to ePub files. And, while I think it's an anomaly, I left it my car and the cold drained the battery -- when I woke it back up, it had a book on it I'd been looking at. I never actually ordered the book (it was more technical and expensive than I wanted to bother with immediately), and it still hasn't shown up as being ordered on my account despite other orders before and after it showed up, so it seems I got it for free somehow. 🙂

I used to work at a Barnes and Noble so we'd be well versed in the arguments of "why you should buy a Nook."

Pretty much the impression I got was: this is where technology is going. Get on board.

Personally, I'm attracted to the idea of an eReader cuz I don't like owning alotta things (too much to keep track of) and I like the idea of saving paper. Doesn't mean I own one, though.

I thought about getting one but since most of the books I get now are on HTML or Javascript programming I actually like owning a physical copy of the book since it is used as a reference guide for me.

I may buy one.As a big rig driver, having one would free up some space in yhe bunk.

I bought Tracy a pandigital novel. Best gift I ever gave her. She has well over 2000 books in print and they tend to get everywhere. She can store upwards of 2000 in the ereader itself. THAT alone was good enough for me. She has literally 10's of 1000's of free books available to her and it also plays videos and music and allows her to check her email.

She reads an average of 3 books per week so this thing is totally amazing. Hers is backlit but changes to blackscreen with white text when she wants to make it easier on the eyes...

She loves it...

Nothing can replace the feeling of reading real books. But kindle books are cheaper, and easier to carry along. Especially when you read something really thick, you don't have to carry a heavy book. I'm an avid reader and pro-Kindle. 🙂

As a former employee at a paper mill, I hated seeing something like it come
along. The mill I worked at made liner board (for cardboard boxes and such),
and newsprint. When I went to work there in 83, Houston had two daily
newspapers. One of them printed 8 editions a day.
Slowly the internet came in, satalite tv, and cable. People started to prefer
getting their news that way instead of the paper. Paper mills started shutting
down. Jobs were lost. Several years ago, they shut down on of our two
newsprint machines.
Don't get me wrong. I'm for progress as well as the next guy. Besides, I'm
done making my living that way. Guess I'm lucky I got mine while I could.

I always swore I would I would never get one. Then I got my droid phone which had a free kindel app. I downloaded it just because I could. To it's credit it made me rediscover the classics. I use it on the the train to work and just finished reading treasure island today. It's good on the phone because you can make the print big and I have all my music on it too so I can have it playing while reading. I tend to think I will just stick with the phone as opposed to buying the actual reader.
