Euro 2004......bring on the frogs!

My view as portuguese is quite simple

The game was pretty much boring, no one wished to run, only rooney and Pires were really trying hard and Pires got tired of it soon. Still, england was running a bit more and with rooney that managed them to get the lead and could have decided the game. You trully deserved to win as the french team seemed more interested in getting to the beach than playing hard! I must say Vieira tried alone once in a while to make is fellows run but no way! They weren´t there for that and even Pires desapeared before the end of first half.

Then...the end of the game....I can agree with many that heskey is not a good player...even in championship manager I never liked him lol He just has the size and size is not all that matters lol But I can understand the need to replace rooney, the weather is very hot here in portugal, it´s going to be a hard competition and no point in letting a young kid fight out there to his last strenghts on the first game.....but this call ruined the game for england!!! that´s a fact!

True that the french defence was able to pull up the field without rooney there and when you have talented players so close to your goal with no chance to take them away.....bad things can happen!

Now for the england team:
Beckam has I was afraid is far from is best, I almost never made a run down the right flank and you could count with one hand the number of crosses he made into the box....also true those crosses were allways dangerous, the man still knows his job...put some nice girl with few clothes near the corner flag and he might be able to run more down the flank. Neville also was afraid of going out there on himself so no right flank.
On the left side...hummm...no one...I belive I never saw an english player winning the line or making a dangerous cross on the left...there´s trouble there!
Your defence was pretty good!! strong, well placed, did what it had to do....great game for King!
Midfield has no wings like I said and the center lacks sheer class, they can fight, they can run...but don´t ask scholes or lampard to do very elaborate dribles...still...they are great players and could do the work with some decent wingers!
The forwards.....rooney is great! in good form, he almost made the work of 2 strikers alone.....yes because...owen??? was he there???? What´s the wrong with him? I was expecting a fast player like rooney cause Michael used me to that but noooooooo...nothing! And no better came from the bench so....some trouble here to!

I´m going to see germany versus netherland now so good luck against switzerland....it´s a very organized team!! I won´t expect them to be able to score against england but they might take you to a draw so be advised.

Owen always strikes me as the oddest striker I've ever seen. Now granted I don't watch much football but bear with me here.

He's all of four foot tall, and England tend to play long balls up to him (or seemed to in the World Cup anyway). He tends to dissapear for large chunks of the match, whether marked out of the game or just bimbling about somewhere (or because the ball's being knocked about in the English half of the pitch). And yet.... and yet somehow he always seems to pop up right where he should be at the perfect time and stick the ball in the back of the net. Not usually a real flashy goal, but I guess that doesn't really count.

I guess, in the end, just having him on the pitch makes the other side's defence nervous as they never quite know what he's going to do and that makes him worthwhile.

Now Henrik Larsson on the other hand... :wow:

Too young to remember John Barnes are we?

Touche. But Barnes did something worthwhile every now and then; such as his goal against Brazil and his free kick against Holland. Heskey has done absolutely NOTHING to warrant being in the squad. Apart from performing sexual actions with Sven, seemingly. :sowrong:

.....its the morning after, who is to blame? ....Beckham for missing the penno? Heskey for a typical strikers tackle, which caused the free kick for Zidanes first goal? Lampard for the kind of back pass normally associated with sunday morning Taverners league football?

Yeah, just like to point out that it was in fact gerad who performed that suicidal backpass. Lampard did good, he scored with a VERY good header.

Oh and Venray MAY be right. The english players that evening MAY have been distracted by cheese! I mean, have you SMELLED a shop that sells all kinds of french cheese (over 200 types. Or thereabouts)? In my opinion, Zidane and mr 'Va Va Voom' had soaked their shirts in french cheese in order to put England off their game! Tis cheating and will reported! Ha! Va va voom, hate that advert.....

Flags can be handy you know. Very good for wrapping someone up in with their feet just left sticking out the end.
