Explanation of FortuneCity/Geocities/etc. logos in place of tickling pics

FortuneCity allows a 500MB of traffic per month. If I post a pic that is 50K in size, and 20 people view it on this forum, that is 1 MB of traffic (20 * 50K = 1000K, which ~= 1 MB)

1 MB is actually exactly 1024K, but that is a minor technicality.

So I've just used 1 MB of traffic. Generally after about two days, 2000 people or more have viewed a pic that I have posted. 2000 * 50K = 100,000K, or about 100 MB.

Generally I post two pics at a time and they are usually around 75K-100K in size. I have to delete and re-open a new FortuneCity account every two days because this forum generates so much traffic, that that is how long my account with them lasts 😉 Funny eh?

Now the other thing is FortuneCity and many other free web page sites use something to the affect of a bandwidth flood analyzer (I don't know too much about this nor do I know *exactly* how it works, this is basically what it *does* though), which basically monitors traffic for a large influx of requests (like what happens here when I post a really goof tickling pic) that it bogs down the server to x% of its optimal performance level. This triggers an alarm and will disable the site that generated the high amount of traffic in such a short amount of time. The site is usually re-enabled in about 15 minutes or so. This prevents certain types of attacks on web servers.

Got it? 😕

I hope that clears things up, I can explain more thoroughly if need be, just ask 🙂

Sorry I can't afford a real domain. I should stop posting until I do.

Peace, have a great weekend, I'm heading off to the Celtic Festival tomorrow. I'll visit later tonight around 11:00 PM EST if anyone has questions; I'll watch this thread regarding this at that time. We should really find an affordable way we can all post our pics to, and everyone pitch in a little like the idea of the archives. There has got to be a way to do it, we perhaps just haven't thought hard enough or maybe just have not dug deep enough.

I hope all that made sense, I'm sorta typing in a hurry.

Cya 😀

🙂

Also Geocities doesn't allow crosslinking if I'm not mistaken.

Right on, Myriads. Foprtunately when you're posting nothing but some genre of media or another and no pages, this is not an issue. Using one account to displ[ay the page and some pics and another to hold more pics to link to from your site was never allowed (cross-linking). But people have gotten away with it for months. Then came Yahoo; they've got a clue, unfortunately...
