Used to be a big Southern Comfort fan and did many shots decades ago. Now the rare event when I have something other than beer would consist of white russians with Kahlua, or just a sombrero which leaves out the vodka.

It's called a Vanilla Madras, but is also known in my bar as a Stinky Pinky. It is....either Absolut Vanilla, Smirnoff Vanilla, or (preferably) Stoli Vanilla with half orange juice, half cranberry juice added.

Fav shot is a Goldschlager, or an occasional Starry Night (half Goldschlager, half Jagermeifter).

A good vintage vodka chilled ice cold straight up. Stolivichnaya is one of my favorites.

I'm very fond of Tequila, particularly Cuervo 1800. I remember myself and TTD and a certain bar in Albany and a several tequila sunrises...

I have an inborn fondness for single malt scotch, of course. However, I'm not really into those "creamy" liquors. Also, I never really understood the concept of Kahlua...coffee and alcohol. So, you can get sickeningly drunk with no hope of passing out. D'uh....

As for what I drink, it is normally wine. But every so often I do enjoy a liquor or two. And as a bartender I do sometimes (after hours) get to sample a tad.

I'm not a tequilla drinker, but I do think that Patron is the best. I'm not to picky with vodka or gin, but if I get a martini it must be very dirty (I call it a pond water martini). I tend to stay away from dark liquor, except for Grand Marnier which is an orange brandy and doesnt count. I love that stuff but it way too expense. My liquor drink of choice is Black Haus, which is a clear blackberry liquour that is 80 proof (which is the same for most hard liquors). Either drink it straight up ice cold, or with cranberry juice (a drink called crackhouse.)

Myself, I like JD, and Old Grandad, when I am out, I usually get either Crown Royal or Courvosier. But mostly I drink Tanqueray, or some Absolute.

But if I really wanna get under the table, some homemade shine will do the trick for me every time. In fact, I need to give my uncle from Tennessee a call 😛

Margarita, straight up, with Sauza Hornitos tequila, preferably with a shot of Cointreau floated on the top. Kahlua, straight up.

It's illegal to SELL it in US, possession is not illegal. Well, all you have to do is a search on it, there's tons of sites. I could make a recommendation but like with beer, etc, everyone's tastes are different. You might try a few before picking a favorite...

Let me comment on Steph's recommendation of Absinthe. First off, be careful what you get when you try to get it in the US. (And by the way, Steph, possesion of it is illegal in several states, check your local laws carefully.)

There is a product going around called "Absente", which is an alcohol drink infused with a very different kind of wormwood than that which gives traditional Absinthe its hallucinogenic properties. There are several others by various names that do the same thing...give the taste of Absinthe, but rely almost totally on the alcohol content for the effects. In these cases, you might as well be drinking Sambuka.

As far as the real stuff goes, I live on the Canadian border, and in Canada Absinthe is legal, but not sold abundantly. The best is the stuff from either the Netherlands or France. They are the only two countries that distill Absinthe in the traditional manner.

Now, if you can get your hands on real Absinthe, I recommend caution...and this is coming from someone with a great deal of experience with hallucinogenics. I've seen people cut large pieces of thier bodies off on Absinthe binges. Not to mention other horrible things. This is NOT just alcohol...it's an hallucinogenic drug in a liquid form. I myself had a weird experience with it....it was 1989 and I was living in LA, where you can get things like this without question. I was with several friends and we were drinking Absinthe in a cemetery. I became convinced that I was dead, and had to find my own tombstone in order to find peace and move on to the next world. There's seven hours of my life that I'll never get back.

However, Absinthe can be a very fun drink if you have the stomach for it, and if you can obtain it legally. I have a place in Montreal I can get the French stuff from, and it's a hoot. Try it with 7-UP.

Thanks Dave for the correction. You're right. It can be VERY dangerous if not used correctly. I'd never take more than one shot of it at a sitting and sloooooooooooooooooooowly. And I prefer the French version, BTW...

Now, at BevMo here in town, there's a legal, much less intense version of it that you can also make yourself. Comes with the absinthe spoon, you provide the sugar cubes, of course etc. I can't remember the exact name of it but it's like "Absentia" or something like that. No hallucinations but it gives a nice buzz. Anyone who's interested, let me know and I can find out what it's actually named.

I'll find the site to convert to euro $ for you if you like. And no biggie about passing on it. Like I said, I only have one shot at a time~I've never hallucinated. Ya gotta seriously be partying with it to have that happen. I can hallucinate on local shrooms if that's what I'm going for 😉

My attraction to Absinthe is the exotic nature of it. I'm not drawn to things that everyone else likes...Just my way...

What I should have said is that the song is not my cup of tea...although I like the lyrics (probably because it rings true for me).

Some of the drinks others have listed sound tasty. Perhaps I should experiment.
