Let me comment on Steph's recommendation of Absinthe. First off, be careful what you get when you try to get it in the US. (And by the way, Steph, possesion of it
is illegal in several states, check your local laws carefully.)
There is a product going around called "Absente", which is an alcohol drink infused with a very different kind of wormwood than that which gives traditional Absinthe its hallucinogenic properties. There are several others by various names that do the same thing...give the
taste of Absinthe, but rely almost totally on the alcohol content for the effects. In these cases, you might as well be drinking Sambuka.
As far as the real stuff goes, I live on the Canadian border, and in Canada Absinthe is legal, but not sold abundantly. The best is the stuff from either the Netherlands or France. They are the only two countries that distill Absinthe in the traditional manner.
Now, if you
can get your hands on real Absinthe, I recommend caution...and this is coming from someone with a great deal of experience with hallucinogenics. I've seen people cut large pieces of thier bodies off on Absinthe binges. Not to mention other horrible things. This is NOT just alcohol...it's an hallucinogenic drug in a liquid form. I myself had a weird experience with it....it was 1989 and I was living in LA, where you can get things like this without question. I was with several friends and we were drinking Absinthe in a cemetery. I became convinced that I was dead, and had to find my own tombstone in order to find peace and move on to the next world. There's seven hours of my life that I'll never get back.
However, Absinthe can be a very fun drink if you have the stomach for it, and if you can obtain it legally. I have a place in Montreal I can get the French stuff from, and it's a hoot. Try it with 7-UP.
