I was wondering about the 4 Beatles and of course have my favorite but was wondering what others thought and who their favorite Beatle is. John was the witty one Paul the cute one George the quiet on and Ringo the lovable one, well at least that is what the press said when they first came here but again what to you all think? Feel free to talk of individual musical talent and collective talent as well as personality.

John was definitely my favorite beatle..as a child i had a major crush on him...and after i got older, i enjoyed his music best..his voice had such clarity at times..and his lyrics made sense..my sister had to settle for Paul hehe...

Can't say i have a favorite one myself.Allthough i was around then and they produced some fine music,i was never a big fan.I think George Harrison may have been the best musician of the bunch myself, though his solo career was never huge.Ringo was a great guy by all accounts and a hell of a drummer.John Lennon went down the crapper when he hooked up with Yoko, sorry but true,no one would ever have heard of that flake if they had not been married. As for McCartney, well he is a Knight and worth 500 hundred million or so,he did write some good songs and had a longer career then the others.Anyone remember who the 5th beetle was?I'm sure some of you do.

I'll say one thing about the Beatles , they for sure all had their own unique style in the songs they wrote . I liked Ringo ..... This song felt fun.... "Octopus's Garden "

George--his slide guitar riffs absolutely melts me...
XOXO

Paul. Why? Well..................because he's Paul!

Besides, to put out something as ingenious as "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey" after leaving The Beatles, that says it all.

Anyone see their movies? Hard day's night or Help! ?

Ringo was always my personal idol of them all. He was the little guy in the back who got picked on, lol.

John himself is hysterically witty, which is something always cool in my opinion.

George may seem like the quiet one, but in the movies he had some of the best lines, even though he was never really focused on.

Paul was Paul. He got the girls.

Ringo is my favorite musically I suppose. But personality was definatly John Lennon.

I believe drummer Pete Best was the 5th Beatle...did he ever get a raw deal!
My favorite from when I grew up with the Beatles was always George. I really like most of his songs. they're still the most likely Beatle tunes to play in my head.

Pete Best

That's only partly right. Stuart Sutcliffe (the band's original bassist), George Martin (the band's producer / arranger / sometime piano player) and a few other studio players could all be considered members.

My personal favorite is McCartney, in part because I am a bass player myself. Both Paul and Ringo had this knack for playing exactly what was needed -- nothing more and nothing less. Listen again to "Something". Although it was George who wrote, sang and played lead guitar, it's Paul's bass part that really makes that song amazing.

If I had to choose, I think it would be George. During the Beatles' career, George's songs were a few and far between. John and Paul would only permit him one song per album side, for the most part, and thus for those years we heard only George's best stuff. After the break up, the first thing George did was release a triple album set called All Things Must Pass. How liberating that must have been for him.

Paul has some incredible songs to his name. Hey Jude. Let it Be. Though he mostly seems to be remembered for his ballads and love songs, when he got down to it, McCartney could rock your socks off. Paperback Writer, Helter Skelter, and I'm Down are a few examples of him cutting loose. Paul clearly enjoyed the most successful solo career.

John Lennon goes down in history as one of Rock's legends, and rightfully so. His lyrics were always more thought provoking, and in my opinion, more poetic. He exhibited more of a taste for the bizarre than did the others. He was the only Beatle ever known to hang out with Frank Zappa and the Mothers.

On coolness alone, Ringo wins hands down. During the last year or two of the Beatles' dynasty, when they were having problems getting along, all of the squabbling seemed to be between John, Paul, and George. I don't recall Ringo ever getting into with any of them. After the breakup, Ringo was the only one who could success enlist the other three into participating on one of his albums. Ringo rocks!

The late great George Harrison. I thought he was an outstanding guitar player as well as a really good voice.

So far so good and it seems like George has gotten quite a few votes here though it seems pretty even among the 4. There were several "5th Beatles" someone said Stuart Sutcliffe but there was also George Martin, Pete Best,Jimmy Nichol (who replaced Ringo for a short time when he fell ill in 64) and the late great Billy Preston.

o no drew i must disagree..John was the coolest beatle..no competition about that in my book...george was ok and he is my second best favorite beatle..but John now he was cool...

I love John, Paul, George and Ringo as The Beatles and as solo performers, but I've gotta say that George has always been my favorite. Ever since I heard "My Sweet Lord" back in 1970, when I was nine years old, I felt kind of a connection to him. I remember looking at the "Abbey Road" album cover when I was a kid and thinking to myself, "When I grow up I'd like to look like George!" (That never happened, no matter how long I grew my hair) I just wish I had seen him in concert when he performed here in Tucson in 1974.
So, cast another vote for George:

i have to go with george, i always felt he was very underrated as a guitarist, and he had some killer riffs. his music after the beatles was the only one of the four i can really listen to. no disrespect to john lennon, but some of those post-beatles songs he had with yoko ono squaking in the background were just ghastly in my opinion.............

Featherfingers I've noticed you posted a small clip of Harrison performing at his famous 1971 Bangladesh concert for famine victims. A little backround is due here. Harrison was asked by his close friend and mentor sitarist Ravi Shakar to raise money on behalf of the famine victims of that country. Harrison rose to the occasion and did a wonderful performance at Madison Square Garden and I had the good fortune to see him along with Ringo Starr, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton and a host of others. Harrison was a trailblazer in the fact that nothing like this has ever happened in pop music and again a Beatle was involved with being a first. Many people cant begin to realize 30 years later how important the Beatles musical innovations were in the studio not to mention the trends in fashion and social commentary.

You were at the Concert For Bangladesh???!!! Live and in person? I want your autograph, Brian!

You're exactly right concerning George and Ravi being the first to put together a benefit concert of that magnitude. I'm glad the concert is available on DVD, because I was too young to attend when it actually happened. I had the original album, at least.

Yes feather I was fortunate enough to attend though I was in the nosebleed seats and was facing the back of the stage I could at least claim to having seen 2 live Beatles in performance in my lifetime. I was all of 16 at the time and me and my friend just got the tickets on a flook not thinking they would still be available. I guess saying this ages me a bit lol.

I have to chime in here, some George Harrison "cool" moments:

George on the Dick Cavett show
George on Saturday Night Live
George on The Simpsons
George in the video for "Got My Mind Set on You"

and how about that other band George was in.......The Traveling Wilburys??

Harrison on SNL

By the way that Saturday night Live show was watched by none other than John Lennon and Paul Mcartney as Mcartney happened to be visting John at his apartment that night and they came seriously close to paying the show a suprise visit to not only suprise Harrison but to take Lorne MIchaels up on an offer of I think it was 3,000 dollars each for a Beatles reunion lol.
