Each of the above has at one point managed to gain omnipotent power and threaten the whole universe and has along the way been developed as a complex and at times sympathetic character. While undeniably evil, they're always entertaining.

Yes, I'm a spidey fan. Deal. ;-)

The Shade- First saw him in Starman, then again in his own series. Has a fair amount of depth.

Taskmaster- A villian with photographic memory and reflexes. Never started out particularly well, but his four part series revealed him to be a complete badass- also great with the Deadpool tie in.

Mephisto- First read about him during the Infinity Gauntlet set- can't go wrong with the devil as an antagonist.

Herr Starr (From Preacher)

None of the above have any super powers but by reasons of personal corruption or insanity- or a combo of both make for interesting villains.

I can't believe I forgot about Herr Starr from Preacher! It's only like my favorite comic of all time! (Along with Sandman, naturally.) Actually, there were a ton of great villains in that series, in addition to Starr. There was the Allfather, the disgusting pig that he was, lol. Jesse's grandmother was downright evil. The Saint of Killers, while not really a "villain" was a great character. And of coarse there was, ummmmmm, God. Man that series was a blast. I re-read the whole run straight through like 4 times a year. in fact, it's just about time for me to get started on that. Thanks for reminding me, WraithTickler!

All-Time Favorite: Mister Freeze.
Best. Motivation. EV-ERRR.
He lashes out at the world in rage and grief for his lost love, and blames Batman because he can't face the truth that his wife's death was ultimately his own fault. In the Mister Freeze one-shot that came out to co-incide with Batman & Robin (wherein Ah-nuld utterly mangled the character), we see flashbacks where it is revealed that Nora was the one good, pure, and decent thing in Victor Fries's sad, lonely life, and when he loses her we almost forgive him for strapping on the refrigerated armor and going on a march for revenge.
Also, he has the best comeback ever, going from an Icicle wannabe goober in the 50s to today's tragic figure of Sophoclean proportions.

Most of Batman's Rogues Gallery follows close behind, especially the Joker, Two-Face, the Ventriloquist/Scarface, the Penguin, and the rest of those tragically yet fascinatingly mad Arkham Inmates.

Over at Marvel, I like Spidey's stable of archenemies, notably Doctor Octopus and the Rhino; and long-time Iron-Man nemesis Justin Hammer.

And of course honorable mention must be made of some third-string lame-o's I still have a soft spot for:
The Serpent Society: Sidewinder, Anaconda, Asp, Black Mamba, Black Racer, Boomslang, Bushmaster, Coachwhip, Cobra, Copperhead, Cottonmouth, Death Adder, Diamondback, Fer-de-Lance, Puff Adder, Rattler, and Rock Python may not be as famous as the Red Skull or Baron von Strucker, but they certainly gave Captain America a close shave on more than one occasion.

And of course, how can I forget Giganta? A statuesque redhead, constantly barefoot, in a jungle-print bikini? Definitely a profound influence on my nascent sexuality.

My Picks

Gotta Love the Green Goblin (Origonal) as well as Magneto, Sabretooth (comic vertion not the movie) and Dr. Doom. The Jocker, Lex Luther, and Gorilla Grod of DC fame are good too. For evil bitches with sexapeal, you gotta go with Mysteak or the White Queen for Marvel, and Poison Ivy and Cat Woman for DC. I'd like to see Jenna Jameson play the White Queen in X-Men 3, if they have a White Queen in the third movie.
