I think this thread needs to make the distinction between "lead singer/ frontman" and "lead vocalist".
I'm going to put my hat in for Mike Patton. He did crazy years before crazy became cool with lead singers like Jimmy Urine (Mindless Self Indulgence) and Serj Tankian (System of a Down). Faith No More was just ridiculous.
Outside of Patton, I'm going to also say Frankie Valli of the Four Seasons, Barry Gibb of the BeeGees, and Nick Drake of Nick Drake and the Bad Seeds.
Wait...what's difference? 😕
Lead singer/ frontman = lead vocalist who primarily fronts the band without an instrument.
Lead vocalist = someone who sings lead vocals primarily while playing an instrument.
I think you mean Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Nick Drake was the early 70s singer/songwriter dude who did the albums "Pink Moon" and "Bryter Later".
Drew
Probably been done and overdone, but who is your favorite lead singer/vocalist of all time?
My (non-ordered) short list:
- Layne Staley
- Steven Tyler
- Kurdt Cobain
- John Garcia
- Jim Morrison
Yours?
